Little sugestion : some people mention that the batch number is very important for overclocking. We should include those as well. From what I know this no is fomred from the last 4 digits from the 4th line (not 100% sure).

My CPU can actually do 2600mhz at 6.5x400HTT, but I have to use the 1:2 divider so my ram is at DDR400. This is prime/stresscpu/pi/etc stable. Moving the divider up so the ram runs at say DDR480, Prime and StressCPU are no longer stable. Methinks it's the memory controller.

EDIT: It's at 1.52v too. :)

A_X
02-08-2005, 09:00 AM
There's not really any use for running your HTT at 400 when you use a 1:2 divider other then that it looks sweet... A higher HTT won't give you a noticable increasement in performance.

I would also recommend not to use half multipliers.

sr4470
02-08-2005, 04:45 PM
HTT ratio at 2x also doesnt work that great...i didnt even use it when i was testing HTT limit of my board (so far 340HTT @ 5x cpu multi and 133 ram divider)

Yes, I am really pleased with the chip and the Gigabyte motherboard. I think I can do better in both SuperPI and 3DMark once my TCCD arrives, though I am pretty sure that is the max for the cpu, but the better bandwidth should help. I also have some KHX w/ BH-5 and an OCZ DDR Booster on the way. I will really see what I can press out of this system.

Hi guys!

Sorry for the newbie post but which A64 do I need to get 3.0 Ghz under good water for a 939 socket? FX-55?
I thought that most A64's were hitting 3.0 Ghz and what I'm seeing here is mostly 2.6 and some 2.8's. Are these the "average" O/C I should expect?

I don't mean to hijack this thread. I just need a quick straight to the point answer or maybe a PM.
If this post is improper in anyway or I should just have made another thread, a mod should please delete it.

Thanks! :toast:

DildePer
02-18-2005, 07:49 AM
Man, 2,6 and 2,8 are not average.

Some chips hit 3000 or above, some will do 2100. It's basicly luck - but get a 0448 SPAW and you have a good chance :)

But the newer chips rarely hit 2500...

havent tried yet, but i already modded the swifftech mcw371 to fit on a socket 754/939 board :D (swiftech heatsink with 80W tec)

this thing is really old, its for socket a and this old intel p3 socket :D
since those winnies are running that extremely cool it should be fine if i keep the vcore low :)

on a german hardware site they just meassured a 3500+ winchesters power conumption, with cnq in dile its only 6W!!! and max load was 40W!!! im not 100% sure those numbers are correct, but it makes sence to me, the retail heatsink is really crappy, the fan doesnt move much air, yet the heatsink stays cool to the touch/slightly warm even at 2.5ghz with 1.5v under load.

so an 80W tec should be fine :D

enough OT :D i will make a new thread about the results with my tec tomorrow :)

last night i opened the window and let in some cool air and i could reach 2.6ghz stable with only 1.500v wich was actually 1.472v according to CPUZ and 1.485v according to CBID! :slobber:
im not at normal room temps, to get it stable at 2.6ghz i need 1.525v now (1.504 according to CPUZ and 1.517 according to CBID)

cooling is the amd stock heatsink with a small 60mm papst fan on it. its a high pressure high speed fan, but it has only 35cfm! :eek:

I have a few stable configs at various Vcore (noted here the Vcore min reported by CPU-Z while windows idle) :

Mhz: 2250 MHz
Gain: 450 Mhz
Vcore: 1.44v
FSBxMulti: 250x9 memclk 200 (CPU/9 => 250) 3-3-3-9 1T

FSBxMulti: 278x9 memclk 150 (CPU/11 => 208) 2.5-2-2-7 1T

Mhz: 2520 MHz

Vcore: 1.58v
FSBxMulti: 280x9 memclk 150 (CPU/11 => 210) 2.5-2-2-7 1T
Ambiant 20C, max CPU 54C

Mhz: 2547 MHz

Vcore: 1.63v (*)
FSBxMulti: 283x9 memclk 150 (CPU/11 => 212) 2.5-2-2-7 1T
Ambiant 21C, max CPU 56C

(*) 3h prime failure @ 285*9 at this Vcore, didn't try 284*9

This is the highest this one will go stable. Higher Vcore freeze it while loading Windows.

The highest "stable everything except Prime" setting is 289*9 (2601MHz) @ VCore: 1.61v memclk 150 (CPU/11 => 217) 2.5-2-2-7 1T
(checked Super_Pi 32M result file against a reference file computed at lower "Prime-stable" settings : no differences)

I also noticed this particular Winnie doesn't like high FSB past 2250 (at least, it needs a lot more VCore at mem 240-250 than at mem 200-215).

Plotting the Freq / Vcore from above shows a nice hockey stick. I would love to know how cooling/CPU temp would impact the curve.

Still debating w/ myself if I should settle for this or go XP-120 or water and may-be get a few MHz more ... or could it be a lot more ?

There are no BIOS benchmarks. Being able to clock to high frequencies only to reboot and make it back into BIOS is actually useless and isn't an accomplishment of any significance. ;)

Let's keep this one on topic, gentlemen.
