How you guyz like this sig, yes i took a sig made by badly and modified it i have to start somewhere...:

i think it its ok to start with a ready made sig and improve it.
as you said you have to start somewhere and i think its a nice start.
But you need to replayce the white backround with a grey one ;)

Or with a transparent one...

@dos
if you choose a transparent and save it as jpg you will get a white backround...

yup that exact question was on a test i took for web design competition, it asked if you want to perserve transparency how must you save an image and it gave 4 extensitions like .gif .jpg .bmp of course i got it correct ;)

How are some of these sigs being made anyways? I like tom's quite a bit, and the other HL2 related ones.

damien,

most people (like me) use photoshop to do the sigs.
Acually the start of making sigs is very simple.

- open a new file with your requested sig size and
- open another file with yr preferd picture hl2 guy or something else
- drag and drop this picture into your sig file
- scale it to prefered size
- than put another layer over all
- you now can work on this layer colour styles etc.
you can choose to show this layer in front or backround change colour
intensity etc.
so with this you would have finished a simple sig.
And you can go on putting new layers over it etc.

This is a very simple one 2 layer + animation in backround was done in 15 minutes
