Hello all,

I am new to xtremesystems and thought a good way of introducing myself would be asking silly and annoying questions :D

I'm considering getting this components and wonder what RAM to choose:

A64 3500+ Winchester
DFI NF4 SLI-D
Thermalright XP-120 with a Papst 4412/2GLL (1600rpm and 18dB)
2x WD 740GD Raptor
and ... well, I was considering a OCZ DIMM Kit 1024MB PC4000 with CL2. A friend told me that I might wanna go for PC4000 GSkill RAM, but failed on elaborating why exactly.

I've been reading this forum for the last few weeks and noticed only very few oc'ed 3500+ systems on air. As you can see with my choice of components I want it to be a silent system, maybe I'll even take Samsung SP1614C rather than the raptors, don't know yet. Are the components worth getting in february or are new goodies on their ways to the stores (the mysterious ATi chip Mainboard for example)?

Thanks in advance,
gabb

Not quite sure which version of the pc-4000 you are refering to but if it is this one, note that it is geared towards Intel and is not CL 2 but CL 2.5, in fact all 4000 that I found are 2.5 on the OCZ web site.

Personaly with same setup as you I am going with OCZ EL Platinum 4200

As for new system in February or later, in the foreseable futur nothing on the horizon for you since you seem to go SLI, and that's only with nf4, so forget ATI.

Raptor versus Samsung if speed is what you are after....Raptor hands down will get you there. Nothing short of SCSI drives beats Raptors today.

I would definatly chose the G.Skill PC4400 with 2.5-3-3-7 timings.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definetly stick with one of those two then. Either the OCZ or the GSkill.
Can someone compare a Samsung SpinPoint HDD with a Raptor noise-wise? Is the Raptor alot louder? If not then I'll go with the mentioned components, although I don't know if it's worth getting a 3500+ from what I've read here so far OC-wise. 3200+ with a multiplier of 10 sounds like a reasonable choice as well.

Anyway, thanks for the replies guys. :)
