Why do motherboard manufactures place the memory slots so close together?

Is there a way to run memory out of socket.

Could a neo2 be modified to run memory dual channel in slots 1 & 4 or 1 & 3

Motherboard manufacturers design boards to an exacting specification. I'm not saying that it is impossible to run memory out of their respective sockets, although I've never seen it done. But to do this, you basically need to redesign and remanufacture the board.

Is DIMM placement and positioning a concern to you because of thermal issues? If so, many will testify that one or more decent CFM fans in the DIMM region works wonders to prevent overheating memory.

i highly doubt you could run mem out of socket.

yes heat is the issue. I wanted to avoid another fan. I hope there might be a extension type cable to go between the memory and slot.

It seems silly for the manufactures to put the modules so close together, and right next to each other for dual channel. Using slots 1&4 make more sense.

I'll go and get a fan now...

Arent there some motherboard manufacturers that make dual channel slots 1&3. I'mnot sure, but I think that is what you were looking for.

Yes, there are. But his question was more on the Neo2 side. ;)
