I am looking for a new memory as the one doesnt seem to go at all with my mobo. Its a shame as I think its a BH5 ram. Anyway, I was reading through the forum and see that most people seem to say that the LA only comes in 256. An online shop here are selling 1GB (2*512). Here are the specs:

1Gb DDR PC3200 TCCD 2-2-2-5 (LA PC4800) G.Skill Dual Channel kit
Manufacturer: G.Skill - Part number: F1-3200DSU2-1GBLA - Warranty: Lifetime

Specifications:
# Part numbers: F1-3200DSU2-512LA / F1-3200DSU2-1GBLA
# IC Spec: Samsung TCCD (DDR500 Chip)
# Quality Control: Comprehensive rigorously tested in pair at dual channel environment
# Package: 512MB kit (2x256MB) 1024MB kit (2x512MB) dual channel pack
# CAS Latency: 2-2-2-5 (PC3200)
# CAS Latency: 3-4-4-8 (PC4800)
# (512LA 2x256MB is 1T command)
# (1GBLA 2x512MB is 2T command)
# Test Voltage: 2.65~2.85 V
# PCB Board: 6 Layers PCB
# Speed: DDR 400 MHz (PC3200)
# Speed: DDR 600 MHz (PC4800)
# Type: 184-pin DDR SDRAM
# Error Checking: Non-ECC
# Registered/Unbuffered: Unbuffered
# Warranty: Lifetime

So is it an error? If both are 2*512, which one is better? LE or LA?

i'd say go for the LA. specs look better. I'm not having very good experience with my LE , but its probably due to my cpu controller.

(512LA 2x256MB is 1T command)
(1GBLA 2x512MB is 2T command)

Does that mean if I buy the 1GB LA I cant get to run at 1T?

you probably can run it 1t, but not at the rated timings at that speed. some AMD64 controllers won't handle 1gb dual channel with 1t enabled. unless with ddr booster. 512 is less size, and easier on the A64 controller. possibly making it possible for 1T at rated timings.

winchesters maybe better than newcastles in this aspect.

Thanks for the info Kanavit. Much appreciated.

Sure no problem.

I forgot to ask, I assume the lack of heatspreaders wont cause a problem even if the ram is overclock high?

Kanavit

nope, many will dispute , but i think heatspreaders are bad for ram. i ripped mines off my old PC4000 hyperX kingstons. their pretty to look at, and nice protection. but when it comes to overclocking, you will need all the help you can get. heatspreaders trap heat on ram and not dissapate it.

The 4400 LE is the best I have tried so far.

LE can run PC4400 at 2.5-3-3-7, am I right then to assume that the LA could run PC4400 at the same speed? And on top of that have the extra capability to run PC4800 at 3-4-4-8?

From what I have heard go with the 4400LE.

Alittle off topic, but does anybody know where you can find g.skill in canada?
Thanks

Which one is more important, higher fsb or tigher timings?

I find that with the Gskill you can have both! 4 ras to cas cause this is my backup board. My good board had to RMA.

i think higher fsb seems to give me more performance than tighter timings.

220fsb @ 2-2-2-5,1t was way slower than

235fsb@ 2.5-3-3-7 ,1t.

so what are the chances of some G.SKILL PC4800 1GB doing 250FSB @ 2-3-3-10-1T at 3.0v or so

Kanavit

it depends on what memory lock divider your running. i think thats possible if your running at 166mhz divider and fsb at 250.

sorry i didnt mean the FSB i meant the actual ram running 250 2.3.3.10 1T
i know OCZ VX can do it but i would prefer tccd

VX is tccd AFAIK :p

vx is around (MAX) 260 2-2-2-5 i believe

Love my LE's. You can pry them from my cold dead fingers. Might even run with these until DDR2 is needed. :D

and kanavit... if you cant hit much better than 230 your problem is most noatbly your memory controller, like you admit, but I also don't know why you suggest the winchesters have better mem controllers than NC's which most of time appears to be false. My NC I'm testing now on air caps out around 2.7GHz, whether with a divider and my BH5, or 270+ and 1T *10 with my GSkill's.

What is better higher fsb atlooser timings or lower fsb at tighter timings?

say ocz vx at 250 2-2-2-5 vs gskill at 285 2.5-3-3-7

I am trying to firgure out which will give me better bench scores and a better oc I currently have ocz eb and it sucks in the neo2 for timings altogether. I am ready to buy some new ram and put the eb in an intel machine where it will shine but I am stuck between the vx or le because I read so many conflicting views.

A definitive answer would be nice to end the mystery for me at least :)

Both are great. If you want to pump 3.4-3.6v into your ram then VX is perfect stuff for you. Gskill I'd say is the more friendly 24/7 rig solution as they only need like 2.8-2.9v.

Korpse

^ Sums it up really

if you have the means of pumping 3.5/2.6v thru your ram and you want best timings and slightly lower clocks get the VX, if you can/dont want to put that much thru ram and woudl like high clock ram with slightly "worse" timings then get the LE

personally i would get the LE anyday :p
