View Full Version : Thinking about 360W/437W TEC cooling...

This would be an upgrade from my 226W/320W TEC (Swiftech MCW5002-PT) cooling that I have now. I would be just changing out the block for the Blue Dominator Pro and then using a Meanwell SP-750-24 to power it. Yes, that's right, a 750W power supply pumping out about 35A maximum at 24V (22-27V adjustable). Tell me that wouldn't be kickass. I am hoping to see 20C lower temperatures at full load. The current unit could be converted to an LGA 775 unit for the 570J ES and DFI 875P-T setup that I am in the process of building. I want to see that 3.8E0 get to 4.6Ghz+!

oooh. sounds cool (pun intended)

Just go straight to phase-change.. your electric bill will thank you. You could run 4x1/4hp compressors with the amount of power the TEC will draw. Just one 1/4hp could easily cool your cpu to -40C loaded.

Yep, I am just about to make the jump to the VapoChill Lightspeed....

I was tempted to do the same thing, but by the time you get the power supply, buy everything, I realized I'd be better off just going VC LS

Building a new system with a LGA775 3.4EE ES, DFI 875P-T, 2x512MB BH-5, ATI X800XT PE, SB Audigy ZS, 2xWD 74GB Raptor in RAID 0 and a VC LS now....gonna be a screamer. I am hoping for 4.4Ghz+

Do you plan to upgrade your radiator to one with greater heat dissipation? Is your current 34C idle to load delta any any indication that additional cooling might be required to minimize the delta?

I switched to phase change off pelts years ago. running big pelts is like $50-$75 per month no joke. My Vapo PE was easy on electric. but the LS drinks it down. I have it hooked to a Kill-a-watt Electric meter.

Really? If I run my direct die rig all the time it only costs ~5$ more a month to run it (my electricity is only 0.05$ a kWh :D).

0.05cents? What did you do, crack open a street light and jack some wires in?

...good idea, lol

I have abandoned this project and am now building a new rig with a Vapo LS.

Sure if you want to risk killing yourself / getting arrested. ;)

yeah i meant 5 cents or 0.05$. Its still pretty cheap compared to places like california, which is where we sell our excess electricity to (bc has lots of hydropower plants)

Yeah I guessed so, thought I'd spell out the risks for anyone reading this - there's always one who misses the humour and thinks it'd be a great idea. :p

$0.05 sounds a bit more like what I'd epxect power to cost. :p
