I'm having a custom phase change built and seeing as Abit doesn't have mounting holes, I might have it use clips instead... Sysfailur just mentioned to me that it's dangerous because the clips break... I've never had any break. What do you think? Are there any other drawbacks to clips over mounting holes?

The clips don't break.. but the actual pegs may break. You just have to bend the evap line so it doesn't pull on the board and sits naturally.

well i for one have done what you are talking about.so i am talking from experience.you will brake the ears.unless you make a clip retainer using all 3 mounting ears.i broke off a set on a iwill board.but i am using the newest abit board and it has holes.at7-max2

All the abit boards that I've seen lately have the mounting holes on it, your KX7 certainly should.

If you do want to use a clip, make sure that you use all three mounting lugs on each side of the socket, I've seen the single lug heatsinks break them off from time to time.
