there are other ways to get spyware you know, some freeware progs come with it as a package. They say they do it to keep the prog free...

well Giant AntiSpyware, which is the very best spyware utility you can buy IMO, was purchased by Microsoft in the middle of December. Now, if MS essentially ports the same spyware detection engine and releases it as thier own, then the Microsoft Spyware thing will be the best thing you can have. If they offer some sort of crappy stripped down version or if the geniuses at MS decide to fiddle with the engine, then it could very well suck.

I guess only time will tell.

EDIT: After looking over the whole Microsoft download site for their spyware thing, it appears that the basic detection engine has been preserved, although several featrues have been removed for the beta, at least. :stick:

I wouldn't trust a M$ anti-spyware ever. Just get Ad-Adaware and Spybot S&D. Combined, they can pretty much stop any spyware invasion.

lol, you dont trust anything microsoft puts out, why would you have to trust it anyway if you dont run windows, its in the system requirements that you run windows 2000 or xp...

I still use 2000 occasionally, for emergency and comedy value of the blue screen.

lol, i have yet to see the blue screen of death with windows XP. Im thinking of trying out some linux. (Gentoo i think is the one) ive heard that setting up usb devices in linux is hell though, this isnt cool, my mouse is USB and i use my flashdrive alot, is this true?

Linux detects USB devices fine. In fact, hardware detection is much better than Windows since most of the drivers are integrated into the kernel. If your mouse isn't recognised, it will say Generic Something Button'ed USB/PS-2 Mouse, or sometimes the manafacturer's name instead of generic.

Unless you know how to install Gentoo (no installer) use like college linux or slackware

alright, i did some more reading and im going with Debian instead of Gentoo. Hopefully i like linux and dont go back to windows. Ill probably keep linux though since microsoft is going towards DRM at the hardware level. This isnt cool. If i like linux enough i might even switch my main rig over to linux, we'll see how it goes though.
