i really like to know whats the essential differences between the MSI k8n neo4 plat and the dfi lanparty nf4 ultra.

I ordered the msi because it was the only board i knew which was a proven good overclocker...the time i ordered i didnt read anything about the dfi yet...and i dint want to order because of "hearsay"

The dfi semms also much more expensive than the MSI.

Gimme your input.

Btw. planning: A64 3500+ wk 41, 2 xOCZ 3200 rev2, XP-90

The good for DFI is Vcore 2.1; Vdimm 4.0v

so if you are die-hard overclocker, you might wanna take DFI

MSI is also good, but vcore only 1.65 max; Vdimm only 2.85v but can use DDR Booster.

NEO4 MAX 1.488~1.536V :D

winnie: default voltage 1.4V
ocz 3200 rev2 plat: 2.75 which is TCCD

and i am running on air and plan to OC the A64 3500 to 2600/2700 with HTT 260 or 270...

Do you i think the MSI would be problem ? Especially with a winnie which uses less voltage..shouldnt i be fine with the available voltages ?

The mobo is the most important part in your system, you never ever want to go cheap on it.

I did then I ended up getting another mother board. I had an ASUS A7V600-X and now I've got an Abit AN7...big difference in terms of preformance and overclocking

craig, i really dont have a reason to believe the msi k8n neo4 is a 'cheap" motherboard. One reason i ordered was actually that some people (OPB etc.) already had this board running..and i didnt see any reason NOT to get it :)
(Overclock wise etc..)

Seems the only negative thing is the max voltages....but i dont see that as a problem for normal/moderate overclocking. People got as high as over 300HTT....and did not have any problems with it.

I am/was really interested whether the MSI and dfi (in normal, real life use :) ) has some major disadvantage compared to the dfi..besides the max voltages ?!

yeah besides, theres mods for the Vcore correct? So you can always go higher

to OPB, is booster way stabler than 4V VDIMM mod on DFI's board?

BigToe looked into this in the DFI board thread. Sounds like when you get the Vdimm from the 5v rail the Vdimm gets kinda unstable and the board gets rather hot.

to jjcom you saying booster is kinda better?

I believe it'd the same. not big difference :)

Seems like if you want a higher Vdimm than maybe just upping your 3.3v rail is best, but if your going for a higher voltage than you would feel comfortable with, such 4v. than the 5v rail option is a nice one. Seems like if you kept the Mosfets nice and cool there would be less problems...but...Would a prescott be a good example here, its hard.

If you don't need/want SLI, seems like the MSI w/booster would be the way to go. On the vcore, 1.65v is more than you should be giving a Winnie anyway for air.
