Cheers,

Can't you have a watchmaker make one for you? They know how to work with silver, gold and stuff.

I'm happy I have one :) thanks to Petervandamned ;)

But is there really much difference between a silver and a copper one?

Yup ;).

Ive got one on loan at the moment m8, but my m8 will need it back in a couple of weeks or so when he gets his TEC back on.

Copper coldplate - 3720mhz
Silver coldplate - 3780mhz at 4c lower temp. 3800 is almost stable (will run everything except the super pi 32m test). With a slightly thinner plate I think I should get that stable :).

Whoa that IS a pretty big difference...

I did about 3840 in PCmark one time I think with a silver coldplate directly on the P4 core ...
And 3750 MHz @ 1.63V also with the silver plate but a less good CPU... good contact is essential though. Never tried a copper one, I imagined silver was just a bit fancier

The trick for good contact JC is to make some mounting "feet" like the amd cpus have. Do them out of neoprene (pretty thin but a little higher than the core). Glue these feet to the corners of the cpu and the corners of the coldplate. Holds the plate in perfect position while you clamp down the prometia. Thats something to add to the article im working on at the moment :).

Any news on the prometia stuff getting posted by Randi?

Don't know where you can buy a silver cold plate, but it's not difficult to fabricate one out of a lapped silver ingot.

Buy an ingot at a coin store, cut it to size and lap...

"Silver" coldplates are not entirely silver, they are copper plates coated with silver. Silver is much more thermally conductive than Copper. I am sure Pilsy and JC know this, but a newcomer may get confused.

Why would you need a coldplate with the prometeia? ARe you crazy kids doing pelt/prometeia combos?

BTW, I would try finding a diamond cold plate. About tens times more conductive than Cu. :O

Silver isn't really MUCH more thermally conductive than copper. It's something like the difference between 386 and 418, as I recall. Now diamond IS much more thermally conductive at something like 11.3 though diamond plates are a bit... much.

Pure silver cold plates can be had at becooling.com

50 x50 x 1/8" however. And $$$$$$$$$$$43.00 per plate!
