the cd is origional, not pirate and it is borrowed of a friend of mine
im not sure if it works on his ps2 but its a bit dodgey on mine.. maybe the cd reader lens is dirty????
or is it the cd drive itself?

Clean and/or readjust the lens.

if you have a psTwo there can be some problem with the laser burning itself (search google ;) )
to fix that you must solder the laser fix

i went to a guy who knows about the ps2.. he told me that the laser is screwed up and needs replacing.
he wants £70.00 :(

does thsi sound like a laser fix candidate??

well nah in this case its too late :(
the laser fix should be applied when the laser is new ...
now you just can buy a new ps2 or a new laser

i cleaned the laser lens with some video cleaner and an ear bud (dodgey i know!)
plus an ol' mate of mine gave me a screwed up ps2.
he said he had a look at it and opened it up and it never worked since. he said teh cd was a gonner.
i had a look at it the other day and it seems he pulled off the cd ribbones and didnt notice (dont tell anyone that i told you ;) - thats the good news.
but the ps2 freezes sometimes and this si something that im not sure how to solve.. any suggestions?
plus im thinking if i cant fix the freezing issue, id sell them and buy the slim line ps2
does anybody know if they dont freeze / have the same problems as the bigger older ps2's??

Sony sure makes quality products. I tried to mod my ps2, and I took the cd drive out, dropped it on the ground from my chair (about 1-2 foot drop). And it broke. probably 50% or more have problems reading cd's. And this is the first I've heard of the new model of the ps2, the laser burns itself.

My ps2's lazer burned and the front of the cd drive busted off and the cooling fan died, so i phoned up sony and spoke with their technical support (just told them about the burned lazer) and thay said send it in and they will take a look at it. Well i sent it in and a week later they sent me back my ps2, but all the problems were all fixed, the lazer, the fan,and the cd drive cover all fixed like new(they all cleaned it!)
ALL of this done FREE OF CHARGE!!!, no lie!!!!

The slim ones overheat easily, they don't have a HD bay, and the need a mod (Search on google for the "romeo mod") in order to play import and backed up games without randomly dieing.

I have a V9/10 (Forgot which, probably V9 as I bought it when the 5xxxx line first came out to replace my 3xxxx which DREs) with a DMS3 and a 120GB HD.

Nah, they just throw your old one away and send you a new one, it's cheaper that way.

Sony PS2 is very failure prone. Almost all of them from the first year or so eventually have laser reading problems...they all die, it's really BS if you ask me. Happened to every single PS2 owner/friend I know that has had it for at least 3 years. And of course it happened to me, and mine was taken care of very well.
First DVD begins to skip and freeze, then the old PS1 games dont play, then nothing plays anymore...

This is not a well know problem for the Box or Cube, just PS2. Remember how that portable handheld gaming unit Sony released late last year in Japan had that problem of discs literally shooting out of the thing when it was bent in a certain way? LOL.

Sony knows it, the lost a court case on it. They give anyone with a PS2 before V9 (V9 is the first one where they fixed the cd drive) a new V9 or 10 because of the settlement. Sony tried making all of the previous ones too cheaply so it caught up with them.

Sony does replace your dvd. I just sent mine in, got a new one, but I rarely play my ps2 anyways, so it's sort of collecting dust. I have an unopened GT4 on my dresser, but don't have the time to play it

man I must be lucky. Have a launch PS2 and never had a single problem. It gets abused down here at college, and just keeps on truckin.

Oh and evets-, you should really open up GT4. Its by far the best racing game I've ever played.
