i all guys, i am going to build a dry ice container, since the mach will go to gpu

well, now i think that i wil use a 40x42 chopper tube, now, my dubt is the basment... how much eight???

The base should be 1/2" thick I think, from what I've gathered that is the best thickness for DI+LN2. The dimensions should just be whatever will fit on your mobo, usually 2.5" wide is pretty common I think :)

Malachia

1/2" in millimeters????

1/2" in millimeters????

That's Inch

1.2cm

Height is just what you prefer, I have 2 cpu containers, 1 is 20cm and the other 25cm.

Stinger

1,252cm more exactly

I don't see why it will matter wether its 1/2" or something like 3/8". Hell even 1/4"

The thicker the baseplate is the less temperature variation you will get. However your temperatures will be a tiny bit higher because of the bigger baseplate because more 'cold' is spent cooling the larger mass off.

It will give you much better load temps.
Go with 1/2".
DI is a lil different from LN2 since the heat exchange takes place 95% at the base while LN2 the base + containers inner walls. So you definitely need the thick base.

Stinger
01-09-2005, 02:42 AM
so 1/2 is better than 3/4

Malachia
01-09-2005, 03:30 AM
ok, i will go with 1/2" :D

Jvlk

Yep, 1/2 great for dryice and LN2

i will search for 12mm, but i think that will be hard...

cold_ice
01-10-2005, 10:06 AM
10mm are still ok.

Malachia
01-10-2005, 10:29 AM
hum, ok i will search....

i founded the tube in chopper and in alluminium, wich one???

Hilppa
01-10-2005, 10:55 AM
Take the copper one. It is much harder to attach aluminium to the baseplate.

Malachia
01-10-2005, 10:57 AM
ok, i will take chopper one :D

a good(and easy) program to project the container in 3d???

Malachia
01-12-2005, 12:08 PM
ok, i have found chopper pieces 50x50x10mm

tomorrow i will search for tube and good neoprene!

Linde, Airliquide, they all have dry ice. If you live near at the border to Austria you can buy 1kg for about 1.50€ in Graz. But I'm sure that you find someone who sells dry ice in Slovenia.

i have bought tubes and chopper today, at the end i decided for a 70x70x10 basement, good for 478,A64 and maybe 775(i will try in a couple of weeks...)

You can order it in germany, the shipping costs shouldn't be so high. This is a good shop, ordered copper several times here. They will cut blocks to the size you want.
http://www.alu-verkauf.de/main.php

@Malachia: I hope you don't have to use a ordinary hacksaw to saw the blocks to the right size :p:
I would take a 60x60x10 base, because you have to think about insulation...

Malachia

yes i know, in fact i realized only @ home the error.....but for 478 and A64 is ok, 775 must try...

its not neopren its Armaflex insulation much better then neopren and with DI you can have 12mm to 15mm its enough but shall you go on liqud nitrogen you should probably have 20mm- 25mm :)

Ok i find DI :D 1 evro per kg.How fast di evaporate i mean, when you buy it do you start benching or it can be stored somehow like in a freezer(i was reading that freezer's thermostat will shut off the freezer due to the cold of the DI)? In what package do you get di?
Thanks

cold_ice
01-15-2005, 10:07 AM
I stored it in a "insulated bag", which you normaly take to the beach for cold drinks. Maybe 1 or 2kg are evaporating per day

i dont know if u have the same system of paper number! but i start with P600 an when it's klean copper i'll use P320 all black water sandpaper :)after that it shine like a mirror

I believe the whole world has the same system.

But like chefnr1 said, look for grit 600 , 800 ,1000 ,2000 to get it flat like a mirror.
But anything over grit 800 is overkill really, doesn't add anything cooling wise, only cool mirror look.
