I just bought a 20-24 pin atx converter cable for 24pin atx board. My question is will this work ok with a ddr booster? Or does the booster need to plug directly into the board 1st? I don't want to fry anything if it's not necessary. Take a look...

Can I just ask....why? The 20 pin PSU will work fine in the 24 pin ATX plug, as seen here (http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20041223/atx12v-24pin-02.html) , and we have also seen OPB using a 20 pin in a 24 pin socket.

Using that 20-->24 pin won't give you the extra 3,5,12,ground will it, just merely make it 24 pins so it fits nicely in the socket, but don't only 20 of those pins have supplies to them?

I have been asking a question along the same lines here (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=49383)

I really think they should start making a supply cable that will allow 24 pin supplies to work properly with 24 pin sockets.

It wont bother, it just makes a long cable;)

man thats a lot of wires :D
just wondering if youre losing any of the "clean, stable" voltages with so many adapters and the extra length...

off topic ,but trans am what board is that ?

trans am that setup is fine. although all those extra connections will increase resistance and drop your rails a little but the booster will work perfect. as far as i can tell thats the MSI mobo?

I thought nf4's only support pci-express

Well, yeah, that board has 2xPCIeX1, 1xPCIeX16 and 3 PCI slots.

That's just it. THe extra 4 pins do have have supplies to them. 2 of the grounds from the 20 side are split and then run to the extra 4 on the 24 side. Yes. it's a lot of cable, but I noticed when I had only the 20 pin connect to the 24 atx header, all 3 rails were below normal. I just wonder if it was due to the lack of the 4 pins. I just want to kown if I can use this with the ddr booster how I have it. But I guess I'll just have to try it myself. I'll let you guys know if I'm getting the right power. btw, its a VNF4 ultra

I'm sorry I don't understand, you mention that two of the grounds are split and run to the extra 4 on the 24 pin side, but the extra 4 pins should consitst of a 3,5,12 volt suplpy and one ground. Not 4 grounds.

Have I misunderstood you?

sorry misinterpretation. all 3 rails plus ground like you said.

asked ocz this question 1 month ago but didnt get a direct answer, seen some intel boards that got stabilit issues when a 20pins atx PSU and a 20-24pins converter was used. if your gonna use a booster with a 24pins PSU and a 24pins motherboard you need alot of extra cable. hopefully ocz will come with a booster rev2 for 24pins ATX

Maby ocz just sell a new 24 pin cable with the 2 molex connector things that would save us a bit of money :)

This is what I would like to see. Have said it quite a few times but have seen nothing from the OCZ boys

you could always tap into the 24>20 pin adapter with some molex plugs in the same place the originals come from, this would reduce the amount of connections/resistance

Yea why not just find the cables the Booster needs and connect the 2 molexs to it :)

Exactly what I was thinking. A different adapter than what comes with them now. Maybe a better quality pot as well.
