Hey guyz is Intel releasing any lower mhz cpu's with Hyper Threading? Like the 2.8 or 2.53? Just wondering since I hope they would be cheaper and could overclock high!!!

from what I read on a few site, they all already have HT, its jsut disabled for some reason. I would think a bios update would enable it but who knows really.

Hyperthreading is apparently disabled in current processors below 3.06ghz, other than possibly some engineering samples. I would think it would be wise for Intel to leave hyperthreading enabled in all future C1 or later stepping processors, since the more mainstream hyperthreading gets the more likely software developers will optimize their products to support hyperthreading, and this would further improve Intel's performance position relative to AMD.

There's been some talk recently of being able to trick the an older Northwood system into running HT over here (http://www.vrforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=5525&perpage=15&pagenumber=1), but will it pan out? We'll just have to wait and see...

As far as intel's future plans for HT, I would have to agree with bmg that enabling all new lower speed chips would help convince software developers to bring multithreaded aplications into the mainstream sooner, however intel would no longer be able to market HT as an exclusive new feature to help sell their flagship chip. So will they do it? Probably not soon, but possibly some time between now and the launch of Prescott next year.

This says that there will eventually be HT enabled chips at lower clockspeeds, along with other interesting things.
