Phase change or ln2 on mac?

I know that somebody out there *has* to have done this. I refuse to believe that the most xtreme cooling anyone has ever attempted is water. Someone out there has to have tried phase change or ln2 on a mac.

Once I get my direct die setup built, I'll try it out on an old beige g3 I have, but unfortunatly I don't have any recent mac hardware besides a PB g4.

If anyone knows of somebody who has done this, then please post links! I've looked around for awhile and nobody seems to know of anybody doing anything more than water w/ a mac.

its has a resistor on the cpu that controls its speed. Thats a way to get the new G5's up to 3ghz

I don't know much about macs, but whats a stock g5? and how do they compare to p4's/athlons?

The g5 is a very, very nice processor, more comparable to an a64 than a p4. Unfortunatly, I've heard next to nothing about people overclocking them. The g4 and g3 processors were VERY easy to overclock, especially the beige /blue and white g3. Their fsb and multi were controlled in a little jumper block that was easy to access. You could change voltage by resistors on the cpu module itself. Mac overclocking isn't really the point of this topic, if you want to know more about mac overclocking then visit www.xlr8yourmac.com The point of this topic was to see if anyone knew about somebody who has done 'xtreme' cooling on a mac.

my G4 doesnt have jumpers on the CPU, otherwise I would put it under dry ice.

soem of the G4s do not have jumpers, but they do have resistors you can re solder to change the multi/fsb.

I dont think the macs suck at 3d. The new ones come with a 6800, plus I thought they were mostly used for video rendering.

Macs aren't used for heavy duty rendering. SGI Servers/Workstation are used for very intensive rendering. I think NASA has like 1000 SGI Origin servers in a cluster for simulations or something.

Actually everyone is dumping SGI stuff. Their workstations suck and are very expensive. The current direction for 3d stuff is on the PC using Linux and Windows, although Macs are gaining more popularity here because of OSX.

i say phase-change as a good phase-chang is better than ln2...you cant reuse a board cooled with ln2 usually...

You gotta screw up kinda hardcore to not be able to use it after LN2 runs.

The board is more likely to last than the CPU really.

I will repost pics of the G5 broken down. It shows the resistor pack jumper for multipler adjustments. Drawback is limited multiples available so that refridgeration is overkill.

I have not seen anything to adjust pll in OSX
