I was wondering if anyone has tried the trial version. I recently got an athlon 64 laptop, i was gonna give it a try, just wanted to know if anyone had tried it yet. it is available for download on microsoft.com It is obviously a trial/demo/beta version. Replies are appreciated!

You'd be better off getting a AMD-64 compatible linux as Windows XP is near enough worthless.

Hehehe or even Windows XP Media Center 2005 as there are many 64 bit Linux distrubtions which will fail to install without a custom compiled kernel. At least Windows x64 will install. After that, though, there some problems, but not as bad as masterofpuppets makes it sound. I did stop using Windows X64 due to CD Burning Software incompatibility and last time I looked Avast was the only one that had working 64 bit Windows Anti-Virus software (free for home).

Sure Win64bit it installs, but it's pretty useless. It's the most useless OS ever since there is what, 3 programs roughly written for it. It also has added crap from microsoft.

isn't it backwards compatible with 32bit software?

From what I've read, the software will be, but the drivers won't be. At any rate its still beta and not all the 32bit proggies run on it right yet.

yeah I know you gotta have 64bit drivers. afaik ati and nvidia both have 64 bit drivers, nvidia's are probably pretty good, and ati's probably provide the minimal functionality to do simple tasks.. going by ati's past :p:

I dunno what chipset your lappy uses, but the Nforce 6.25 drivers work fine. If you have ATI vid, just use the MS-provided drivers, with the Control Panel from ATI's Beta 3 drivers. The biggest problem I see with the latest XP-64 beta, v.1218, is that there's no 64-bit Flash 7, so browsing the web isn't always pretty, lol. And SANDRA 2005 doesn't run right, but I'm only using the Lite (pronounced "free") version. Overall, I like it tho. :)
