Ok, I'm getting ready to layout my first WC setup this weekend, and I'd like to get it all hooked up and tested. The problem I'm facing is exactly how do all these people who use an Eheim 1250 connect this pump into their setup. I'm using 10mm OD tubing. Its a MaxXpert WC kit from Iceepc.com. Any suggestions?

Also what should I put in the distilled water. I've several ppl say use dist water only some ppl say water wetter and some say car coolant. I've also heard about types of alchohol to put in your wc system. What gives? Suggestions?

use the GM radiator stuff or the most hardcore alcahol you can find.... nothing less than 35 proof or it will not be worth it. water wetter does work too, but i dont like pink :)

I'm not a fan of the whole pink stuff look either, thats why I'm kinda straying from the whole Water Wetter. Hey, would Seagrams Gin work? lol :toast:

Apparently distilled water and water wetter is the best for normal water cooling. Adding so antifreeze if your concerned about growths. Changing the anto freeze to methonol when chilling the water due to lower viscosity at freezing temps.

I test ran my system for a month with just distilled water and the tubes clouded up like something was growing on the tubes. Nothing obvious like algae, but still bad none-the-less.

I've been using distilled water and water-wetter for about 2 months. The tubes cleared up and all looks well. The water-wetter does make the liquid look a bit pink, but you can compensate for that by adding something to color the water. It doesn't take much to overpower the very slight pink color.

Since I was going for a UV glow look, I added a few drops of dye-lite to the water. It looks yellow-green under normal light, and a radioactive-looking green under UV lighting.

I ordered my equipment (mostly) from Danger Den. In order to hook up the pump intake on the Eheim 1250, they supply a tube several inchs long and a couple of connectors to step down to the size of your tubing. Not exactly the cleanest look, but it works. You can just go to a hardware store and buy a couple of connectors to do the same thing.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I have seen some of those wc uv tricks in action I have to say thats looks great. With the glowing liquid and all. I'm considering that after I get everything running like I want it.

You got pics?

Here's my eheim 1250, connected with 10mm silicon tubing:

And here's some UV-action: :D

RichBa5tard,

Very clean looking rig...i c we use the same cpu waterblock :)

That looks nice rich, THe only thing I lack right now is the actual fittings for the 1250 to the 10mm OD that I'm using. I'm also looking for a GPU block, but that can come later. I certainly hope mine turns out as clean as yours!

Ah yes, I'm very fond of my D-tek Spir@l waterblock. :) It gave me awesome results on a AMD proc, but now i'm testing it on an intel and I don't know what to think of it. I'd espected lower temps for an intel:

P4 2.53@ 3.06Ghz & 1.57vCore: idle 42°C, stressed 48°C with 14°C ambient temp.

It overclocks well, but I had expected a temp range of 30 to 40°. Perhaps i should buy the P4 top instead of making a crappy one on my own. :)

edit
@death speak: I didn't buy a special eheim 10mm fitting for it, just a run-of-the-mill fitting will do, but be sure to use some teflon to prevent leeking.

I'm still working on the case, and I'm probably going to remove the red spiral wrap to go with a blue/green color scheme. But you can see the effect of the green dye-lite in the water.

These pics show he UV effect. I couldn't fit my water-cooling stuff in the case, so I mounted it on top. I could probably find a picture that shows the pump and it's connectors if you'd like to see what Danger Den supplies.

Color code ;) :
green = cooling system
blue = IDE cables (I have 7 drives, all master)
red = misc cables, mostly power

You should consider Purple Ice, which as the name suggests starts out purple, and according to this thread at OCF (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=138307) turns clear after a while.

I don't know if this is what you were asking in the first part, but......

I have an Eheim 1250 ( 120v ) I bolted it to the bottom of the case ( with insulating material ),cut the plug off the cord, ran wire to psu ( you'll have plenty left over ) I took out my psu, opened it ( to see where was the best place - and not to damage anything ) drilled a hole for the cable to go through and wired it up to the interior psu plug( AC). I sized the hole to fit a grommet I had laying around, installed grommet and closed up , and reinstalled. I got a 12v relay from RS, wired it up( coil side ) and installed it upside down right next to the 1250 with double sided tape. I cut the cord from 1250 long enough to reach relay, wired that up to the armature ( center/throw ) and wired up the other end ( from PSU - AC ) to the last set of contacts. When I turn on the puter it sends 12v to the coil - which close's the contacts and connects the 1250 up to the ac. The pump turns on immediately. ............................. This is nothing really new, just that I have read horror stories about people forgetting to turn their pumps on, and frying their cpu...... ummmm not a good thing. heheh , wasn't gonna happen to me.

:D
