Opp whats up with the KX7 with raid? Does your board have raid or is it better to get one without raid and go with a PCI card. Basically what I am asking is, does the highpoint work as good as the promise card in preventing drive corruption?
Thnx,
Nate

Nate,

The Highpoint works great on the KX7, no difference for an overclock, I dig that controller.

I prefer it over the Promise Raid 10-1. Have you seen the new Highpoint Rocket Raid 1540 (serial ata with IDE adapter)?
Highpoint 1540 (http://www.directron.com/directron/1540.html) They are pretty cool. 36" cable and they come with the adapter for 4 IDE drives. Also it is suppose to improve the performance of the IDE drives. $129.00. I grabbed one haven't hooked it up yet, but since I can't find the KX7 with raid anymore I was thinking about getting one without and using it on that.

I grabbed a kx7-333-raid the other day for $55 shipped.

I hate to bring up the box things again... but it came in a blue box! That's the first one i got in a blue box, and it came with the silver caps not the black rubicon ones... so it looks like i have to swap my watercooling over to this puppy and let it stretch it's legs.

I've never even seen refurbs there, but am glad to hear that theirs are usually good. Have a hard time with refurbs psychologically.

I just got my KX7-333R refurb from newegg last week. Had it running stable at 200FSB but my air cooling & case suck so i was pushing 59C CPU temps.

In any case, once my water rig is done I'm confident this refurb mobo will be one of the best deals ever!

I might chance it. Just me, have a rough time with equipment previously owned by someone I have no way of contacting. Doesn't mean I don't think it could be a great deal, like I say, just me.

Not to tilt at windmills, but my refurbs from Newegg (all the same kr7a order) arrived appearing to be returns without any refurbishing, the original was DOA, the next wouldn't run above 170 FSB, and the final one would corrupt CMOS anytime I ran it above 133 FSB. All with good components that ran at or above 200 FSB before and since.

I talked Newegg into a refund, so I *only* lost about $30 in my shipping costs to return the boards. Never again for me.

Man, sorry - din't mean to p*ss in yer cheerios! If you decide for a new kx7, mwave has 'em for $79 + $9 S&H, http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/doc2/A15997.html

OR, buy one of the refurbs and if it doesn't make spec, RMA it direct to ABIT instead of taking your chances on another from da Egg!

No problem chief,
I'm not a huge fan of refurbs to begin with. I wasn't really in the active market for one, but 4 50 bucks I thought i'd give one a shot. One thing ya gotta say for Newegg though is you couldn't ask for any fairer warning than what they give for their refurbished prods.
