Does the CPU socket have to be positioned above the unit, or can it be on the same plane?

I like to run my mobos bare on a table...

It doesn't matter.. the only thing going through the arm is vapor.. actually have the evaporator down on the CPU horizontal would help to stop liquid return.. so it's a good thing.

Yes I have run the evaporator horizontal as well, and it works pretty good. Just be careful with the hose.
