Hey HK I got the the EPOX 9NDA3J rev 2

It's basically the 9NDA3+ at $40 less money

Missing FW
Missing rounded cables.
Missing Firewire headers
Missing Screwdriver
Only 2 sata NV RAID vs. 2 sata NV RAID and 2 marvel

Other than that it's exactly the same board. Same box, Same bios options, same layout.

Problems so far? same as 9NDA3+

-slots 1 and 2 don't work even at stock speeds has memtest problems
-Slots 3 and 4 are OK with TCCD until you push past about 230Mhz then it really don't like 1T no matter timmings...
-NO 3.3 or 12V monitoring. If you see it, the numbers will be crazy as hell.

Good things?
-more Vcore options up to +.35 in .05 increments
-Posts no problem at 325HTT and works well at 315.
-Works up to 280 with 4HT!!!

Hope this helps... Killer board for $90.

What's up with that orange PCI slot?
Can I use it for my Audigy?

orange pci slot is for the MSI WiFi card.
i wouldnt use that slot at all...
ive heard it could effect your oc (instability)
so why take the risk :)

can you help me getting my ABIT AV8 stable?

my problem: fastwrites disabled, everything correctly installed. so far, so good. then i put in my win xp professional cd and install it. after i have typed in my name and the networks informations, the installator says --> 7 minutes remaining (in the left down corner). so far so good. after this, i get a bluescreen, which says, change your videocard, disable drivers and reboot the system. i tried everything, but i still get this bluescreen!

HELP ME, PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

need a small help... My K8nsxp died today (at least it won't make me lose time anymore...) i need another mainboard but i can only find an Asus A8V or an Abit Av8. I have to wait a week to get an Msi... What would you do... wait or get a Kt800 mainboard?
I need them to achieve something better than the 3ghz i got with the Giga... so consider that the priority is overclockability
Thanks for the help :)

Once I thought that Neo with S/N:0411 are new rev's, but I got S/N:0410 with the new revision from Taiwan.

In order of choice:
<snip>
Asus A8V rev 2 non wi fi - stay away from early revs with hit n miss locks. VIA chipset doesn't like the locks is the problem. The rev 2 with working locks is a nice mobo.

This, of course, is all my own personal 2 cents:)
So there is a non-wi-Fi veriosn and a wi-fi?

Thanks. I'm up-migrating from nf2 to Socket 939 and I am looking for a stable, mature, board on which to use these components:

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Sapphire
Original Corsair TwinX PC3200LL rev 1.1 BH-5 2 x 512M 1G Kit
NEC DVD-RW ND2500-A

Informed recs much appreciated.

Well, the NF3 boards are better feature-wise than K8T800, and seem to overclock better, but are more expensive. At my supplier, Abit AV8 is 20% cheaper than the board i have - the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, which is serving me well (although it has its fair share of bugs\annoyances, like dodgy readings and cpu socket placement)

sauria
12-26-2004, 04:22 PM
I like the Abit boards that I have used but wonder about the companies future after hearing about "Enronesque" financials. I have been reading this thread and am leaning towards a revision 2 Asus Boad. I don't really want to mod it much and want a feature rich board to setup with a new Winchester CPU. I fear the Asus board won't like my RAM though?

OK something weird is going on here (K8N NEO2)

Vcore @ Bios is 1.5V
Vcore @ CoreCell shows <1.5V (but options shows that 1.5v is selected)
Vcore @ CPU-Z shows <1.5v
Vcore @ ClockGen is 1.45V

It makes me very uncomfortable because I don't know if my chip (which is 0431 :( but I have some hopes on it) can do 2500mhz @ 1.4XV OR 1.50V. If it's really under 1.4v currently i'll give him 1.5v and im sure he'll do 2500mhz at least.

Can someone help me out?
Thanks in advance :D

Hi,

I have some questions about MSI's K8N Neo2 Platinum.

As far as I understand, you need to bend one of the caps to mount an XP-120, right?
So, do you think I should get XP-90 and save the "risk", if any?
Or maybe the cooling differences will be to big to lose just because of a single cap?

Also, does the MSI stock NB hsf worth's something?
Or should I upgrade it?

Thanks in advance :worship:
Swing.

sr4470
12-29-2004, 09:06 AM
The NB HSF usually doesnt have proper application of thermal paste, from what ive seen. lol. i may check my own at some point. Apparently the NB fan has a short lifespan, though its not difficult to replace. Probably better to get the smaller XP-90 rather than taking risks with the 120 and possibly damaging something.

Jack
12-29-2004, 10:00 AM
Swing, there are pics of a mounted xp-120 with the bend cap on the internet.
Search for it and decide if you 'dare' to take that step and bend it :)

difference between xp-90 and xp-120 is undoubtly tested by someone,
just google for it ;)

dont know why you guys are having probs.

Gigabyte K8NS Ultra 939 (F5 flashed bios)
AMD Athlon64 3000+ 939 (0.09)
Stock Heatsink Fan

Max Stable OC - Primed 15 Hours and Pied 15 times in a row

x9.0 x 272.45 = 2451.4mhz (1.488 volts)
133mhz Memory Timing stock volts

it actually works really great for a cheap setup. :)

I've read several posts about the MSI Neo2 nforce3 having a poor chipset fan and after about a week with this sucker i'd have to agree. It gives off a high-pitched whine during operation. I had to disconnect it, it was driving me insane. Can we list this as a con of the msi neo2?

Or try ClockGen (made by same people as CPU-Z) it lets you change the HTT and the voltage, without crashing your systems like Core Center sometimes can.

I have 1 GB of A-data ddr 566 running on an ABit AV 8 in slot 3 and 4. I can´t increase RAM voltage, otherwise my pc speaker starts beeping and will never stop. only cmos reset gets stopped the beeping. I also can run it at 2,5-3-3-6 @ 1 T, if i try 2-2-2-5 @ 1T, the system boots until the user selection menu and then i get the error "0x0000008E" in a bluescreen. Memtest can´t dicover ANY single error.... :(

Some more info on MSI k8t neo2-fir via k8t800pro:

- Locks don't work. Tested both VIA-SATA and Prromise-SATA My SATA RAID-0 looses 50% of it's transfer speed after HTT 265, so I am currently limited to 2620 Mhz on my 3200+ (It would run 2800 with no worries :( ) Also AGP get's corrupted.

- Very little memory settings in bios (Using 3.2, havent found any modded bioses)

+ Takes acceptable HTT, I have clean Screenshot of 365, it even did a PiFast-run with that.

EDIT: Even with Vcore-mod I couldn't get a SuperPI with 2900, 2880 being the fastest  It's a pitty, 2800 with mem in 1:1 would be nice, chip could do it with a little Vcore boost.

after reading this review of the epox-9npa (nf4 ultra) (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/print/epox-9npa.html) at xbitlabs i have some questions...

as you can see, the performace of a a64 3800+ was tested at stock settings (12x200), and at 8x300 with T1 and nice timings
u might notice the bad speed compared to the good old msi nf3u, but i try to look beyond that ;) and notice how small the average performance jump is from 12x200 speeds to 8x300 speeds...

since i was planning to buy a winchester 3200+ and a nf4u, i was wondering, does the overall performance (not pifast and 3dmark alone ;)) improve from lowering the multiplier and increasing the fsb/mem? i know most people here lower their multiplier of a 3200+ from 10 to 9, sometimes even 8... but does that really improve things?

unfortunatly the review doesnt contain test at other multipliers, so the review wont be able to tell me....

but can you?
:D

Just wanted to add some info on the Soltek..

vdimm mod is the same is the nf7s and A7N nf2 boards.. same IC... tried it last night and runs fine up to 3.0v until Overvoltage protection kicks in...

board has solid vcore on mine up to 1.70 although fluctuates down to 1.68 under load...

locks do work, although the board tops out at 260 and is really only stable at around 248-250....

This board would probably love BH-5 since after doing the vdimm i still can't get it to run 2-2-2... best is 2-3-3-8

this is just some stuff ive gotten after tweaking on this thing for almost a month...

its a good solid board and has never given me grief other than the lack of a high FSB...

I have news. I read here that the XP-90 wouldn't fit on the MSI K8N Neo2 when also using Corsair Pro memory (the ones with activity leds). Well, since I got the memory a while ago and I decided do that upgrade without knowing this issue, I was ready to check for myself that, now the news: The Thermalright XP-90 DOES fit on a MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum when using Corsair Pro memory, I'm using a pair of 3200XL Pro memory, the space left between the memory and the heatsink should be about the thickness of a common CD.

However, and don't see the point to use this memory with this setup, the leds can't bee seen since they are totally covered by the XP-90. Well, if you try to look at them through the heatsink you would.

Just ditched my :banana::banana::banana:ing K8N Neo2 for an Abit AV8. As for a warning you might want to add that it has *issues* running in Dual-Channel on alot of RAM. <uncluding Hynix BTD43>

Single channel works fine to the normal 270 but in DC it wont budge above 220.

Gonna get my new TCCD on FRI and see if that helps, if not ill try some DTD50

Zildjian,
there's a known problem with Antec PSU's, if you contact Antec they'll have it replaced for you.

I found the Giga 939 Ultra board to be stable and have good throughput to storage but it was not a good overclocker -- my cheap EPoX is a great overclocker!

only way to check vdimm is by using a multimeter.
As far as i know bios and the included software can´t read it out.

added some things i found in this thread :)

Short notes on Epox 9NDA3+:

- could not use Zalman CNPS7000A backplate due to some resistors (capacitors?) on the back of the motherboard
- could not use the SATA ports 1 and 2 when using an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer NV5, the airduct covers them entirely

:(

thx, added :)

thx for the info about the first slots not liking 512mb sticks in dual channel jlccarv :)

Yes, memory is in slot 3 and 4.
Tested already with 3dmark for stability, no problem encountered...
saaya, please update the first topic with 5x HTT at high FSBs...
what should i add?
you do realize that your htt multi isnt really 5x right?

thx scorp, will add that to the infos :)

I've read several posts about the MSI Neo2 nforce3 having a poor chipset fan and after about a week with this sucker i'd have to agree. It gives off a high-pitched whine during operation. I had to disconnect it, it was driving me insane. Can we list this as a con of the msi neo2?

welcome to XtremeSystems :toast:
added it to the list :D

thx for the F7 tip for giga users Chouny, added to the list :)

PorkchopExpress, the sata slots 3&4 on the epox board will NEVER be locked, a bios cant fix this...

thx Gauss for the xp90+corsair xl pro infos :)

thx Zildjian for the corsair 4000PT info :)

i hope this doesnt dissapoint anybody, but i think this was the last time i updated this thread :D
if i have time enough i might make a new thread similar to this about nf4 boards, but atm i dont think i have time... sorry... if you really want a thread just get together with some other guys here on xs and do it yourselves, send me a pm and i will help you and sticky it :)

thx a lot again to all the people who contributed to this thread and made it this great collection of infos it is :toast:

For the epox 9nda3+, you list that SATA ports 1&2 can't be used with arctic cooling, but they can easily be used if you just get one right angle connector and one regular cable and cut it down so that you can bend it close to the plug. I've attached pics for clarity, I was using an Arctic Cooler just fine, but now its been removed so you can see the connectors really well.

Also, on the 9nda3+, I'm using the Zalman 7000AlCu with no problems at all, not sure if its different than the 7000A that you said doesn't fit on this board, but I know a lot of people are using the 7000AlCu, and there's no issue at all, you can still use all the Ram slots as well

There is another much simple solution: To use the SATA cables of the MSI K8N Neo2 Platimun.
Here is the photo with BFG 6800 and NV Silencer5 working OK.

have some things to add about the Epox 9nda3j:
- u cannot mount the vm-101 and an Xp-90, UNLESS u invert the vm-101, and use an inverted motherboard case.
they put the AGP port too close to the CPU. i've seen other boards that have the sata ports between the CPU and AGP, on this board the sata ports are between the AGP and first PCI slot.
- u cannot use DIMM 1 and DIMM 2 with XP-90, by mounting the XP-90 with the pipes torwards the LPT Ports [not torwards the RAM]
- u can use DIMM 3 and DIMM 4 with XP-90, BUT BARELY, i've managed to scratch my beautiful c2pro, on some stupid xp-90 fins while installing the RAM with the heatpipe top end facing the RAM.
- inverted motherboard cases might require some special cables to the power connector, when used in conjuction with Xp-90, u have to insert the power cable underneath the XP-90 fins, while coming with the cable from below..very tricky.

as for the XP-120 things are even more restrictive i guess.

the other stuff has been said already, most annoying thing is that my ram won't do 2T, even at stock values :(..but oh well, i've got 280MHz out of 110USD RAM.

I have a question,

for the MSI K8N neo2:

Does it report something like 10 degrees to much on stress temp?
and you have to install the 1.36b for 1.9vcore, can't you get this much Vcore with the official one?

I'm using BIOS v1.8 and 1.85v is maximum core center will offer but this is sufficient for processor width nominal 1.4v (Venice).

Anyone having USB2.0 issues with the new 1.A bios for NEO2 .. or isit just me?? Can no longer locate the UBS1.0/2.0 option in the bios. I suspect thats the thing that's limiting me from enabling usb2.0 in Winxp (stuck with usb1.0 for the time being)

TIP: use slots 1&2 for BH-5

TIP: use the ocz ddr booster in slot #2

I'm trying to use my dual channel kit with ocz booster, but

Where else but here to post this message...

I have a DFI LP Ultra D s939 motherboard with an AMD X2 4200 and ATI x800xtpe.

I'm looking for a fix so I can run this combo with windows VISTA.

The problems lies with an error 43 display driver error due to a conflict with the above hardware on NF3 based motherboards.

Help with a fix?

Anybody Using x2 4400 (89w, 2x1m 939) and or on an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, and also the x24200 (65w, 2x512 AM2) on the ASUS CROSSHAIR or any one of them? Just wanna know if this is the right tread to get input or feedback on any of these parts.
