View Full Version : NEW "FLashRd - FlashROM Disk for ATi Graphic Cards"

PIRATA!

Is with great preasure that I announce my new FLashRd ver.3.0 updated at the special edition version of FlashROM ver.2.37 modded by W1zzard.

""FLashRd is a boot disk that contains all the neaded files for flashing ATi graphic cards simply and complitely secure!!""

The big functionality is located in the different kind of flashing available. Infact with FLashRd it's possible to flash an ATi graphic card in a few seconds with the capability to restore previous bios without the use of the screen.
Yeah, thatis right!!! FLashRd proposes two kind of different way of flashing: one method is Automatic and the other one is Manual.
The Automatic method can be executed without the use of the screen because it's FLashRd that makes all the job. Only one single key of the keyboard is needed!! This kind of flashig is most of times used for restoring bad flashes.
The Manual method lets us run flash and backup operations, but with the assistance and semplicity of FLashRd.
It's also available an Help guide even under DOS mode that will show all the great functions of FLashRd.
Of course there is also the capability to use FlashROM manually with prompt commands.

Reassuming... many reasons for trying it!! :)

FLashRd ver.3.0 it's available only in English language.

To know whats new in this new release you can check the ReadMe linked down here or derectly download and try it:

NEW ==>> If you are in trouble, with a bad flash and the graphic card still good and not burned that does not want to flash through DOS with my utility (or even with other floppy or programs like ATIFlash), you can try to flash it through Windows using Ati WinFlash, thing that resulted being a valid try that often it succeeds in the attempt.

How to get to the Desktop?? Simple... using VGABIOS, a simple utility that, if loaded through DOS and in the correct way, it can boot the graphic card using a "temporary" bios, valid until next system restart.

To do this it's nececcasy a particular Microsoft boot disk that boots up the system automatically and right after having loaded the temporary bios on the graphic card, without any user interaction.

This is what to do:

1) Follow the instructions on the Microsoft web site regarding thecreation of a Boot Disk for an NTFS or FAT Partition in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305595/en-us)
(it's preferred to follow the "Create a Boot Floppy Disk WITHOUT a Windows XP-Based Computer" method because it's the most neutral and secure method because it creates the floppy using a Microsoft utility an external from your WindowsXP in use)

2) Download VGABIOS Loader ver. 1.10 (2 KB) (http://stevesimons.altervista.org/hardware/ati/vgabios_1.10.zip) & ATIWinFlash ver. 1.0.5 (220 KB) (http://stevesimons.altervista.org/hardware/ati/winflash105.zip) (right button -> Save Target As...)

3) Create a file named "autoexec.bat" and write in it ONLY the following command line: VGABIOS.EXE -foriginal.bin
(this file must be copied on to the floppy with VGABIOS.EXE and the bios that you want to load temporary on the graphic card)

4) Use the original bios of the graphic card with wich the card was born to guarantee most compatibility.
(the bios must be named "original.bin", according to the command line of the autoexec, and copied on to the floppy)

At the end you must have a Microsoft floppy with on only these files:

- boot.ini
- NTDETECT.COM
- Setupldr.bin
- VGABIOS.EXE
- autoexec.bat
- original.bin

Try to boot your computer with this floppy WITHOUT the autoexec and using a functioning graphic card to see if the boot disk boots correctly in to the system.

Done this you can try to boot the system with the complete floppy and maybe get to the Desktop.

NOTE: If you don't get to the Desktop, it maybe be that your graphic card it's gone because only a good card can work. It's not possible to get to the Desktop if there are hardware damages of the graphic card.

I council to everyone to adopt higher VPU and Ram frequencies then the original stock ones ONLY if complitly sure that the graphic card has the necessary cooling.

I propose you the work of ViperJohn that builds and sels internationally some good air kits build by it self for ATi graphic cards: ViperJohn's Radeon Pro Mods (http://www.imageevent.com/marginjohn/viperjohn)

Here are instead some pics of the Arctic Cooling heatsinks that at the moment seams to be the best on all others:

Hell, for the FlashROM commands just type "flashrom /help" from the A:\ prompt to view them all.

Erasing the eeprom is not that necessary because forcing to flash a blank bios is even better.
This is why in the x800Pro to XT mod is used this method.

I have downloaded it now and the .zip file and all its content works all just fine.
You might have some problem with your download manager.
Try to download using IExplorer and its classic download method without any external download managers.

First thing is that my winflash would not open in windows, so I guess I need to flash throu dos and a floppy...

Is it just to have a floppy disk and download this "FLashRd ver.3.0"

I have a original bios at my computer, so I just copy my bios to this floppy an run it?
Does this program overwrite my bios no mather what?
I hope so, becouse my video card is dead now... I am using a PCI card and I have my dead PCI-E card in the PCI-E slot aswell.

Please... All help is needed to see if I can get my card alive again.

Need lots more info.. start at the beginning, lots more details, how did the card die, what type of card. how did you get the bios, how do you know it is a bios issue, etc. be thorough.

you can flash a dead card but we need more info before giving you advice.

My card die when I was flashing it, then my computer went off... by power issue or something else... in the middle of my flashing...

I have downloade a original bios for my card and I have using RBE to get my original bios and one from GPU-z... All 3 bios is the same, I checked it out yesterday, and all 3 working in my card... did flash it and try them out yesteray

Well I dont know if it is the bios but i can guess... my card is 3 days old, and it went dead after i failure in flashing it...

So my last try before i am throwing away my new card will be to see if I can get it to work again by flashing it by a boot floppy... need something that can flash my card with my original bios by floppydisk... and need it to flash it what ever it take...

If there is no program that can not handle that, then its nothing to do. =/

You need to be more descriptive, "new ATi card" could mean a lot of cards if there was old stock where you bought it, let alone many different performance levels of cards.

If its a 4870 then you probably flashed bad bioses. Most of the bioses on the web are truncated in size and should be 128k (they are only 64k).

If this is the case, go here (it is stickied at the top of this forum): http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=192986

Hi, I need help///

I have 2 - 2900xt's that i purchease from a reputable seller and i didn't fire them up for about 2 months till i got a crossfire board.
So now i got my board and I go to fire them up and it just sits there, everything looks ok, got a 6pin and 8pin from an 950w PS
also put a new cooler on one to keep it from getting so hot. But the board won't even go to bios.

So i put in another card (8500gs) plus the 2900xt and boot from usb. run atiflash -i and get no adapter found.

Board using is a Asus blitz Extreme, but i also tried the cards in a DFI x48 and still exact same thing.

Now i don't think i was ripped off but i think it's a bad bios or something like that.
I would love to get these cards working, i even have waterblocks for them....

any help would be greatly appriciated....

steve

atiflash will do that for you if it can be seen by booting into dos with a usb stick and running atiflash -i.

if it comes back with the adapter id then you can easily flash the bios back.

I dont need it to check or read my bios before flashing it...
Need to force flash in my original bios.
