Thanks

Depends on the chip. The Dothan puts out so little heat to begin with that when you overclock the heat doesn't go up a drastic amount. Plus if you build the laptop your self...then you've got full power for custimizing the heatsink.

jjcom
EDIT: You know, one of those ultra slim laptops...yeah that probly won't work the best for an overclock, a...more standard laptop will cause you less heat issue

i also don't get why perkam's cpuz screen shows the cpu specification as 2.10ghz and the name as M 745. isn't the M 745 1.8, 755 2.0 and 765 2.1?

I've tried the ...2618 clockgen version twice to no avail. It doesn't recognise anything when i press "get fsb".

Also, last night I started playing with the tweaker. Changed CAS from 2.5 to 2 fine. some benchmarks. OK. Changed tras from 3 to 2. bum... windows bsod and SYSTEM file corrupted :(

I'm fixing it right now.... not a very good experience with tweaker for me.

god damn i must be lucky then. i went for 2-2-2-5 and bsod'd immediately but i could reboot fine.
i can run the CAS latency at 1.5 no problem. i guess its because i have ddr400 running at 166MHz. What sort of ram do you have?

Hey TheStilt, if you ever come back here, how did you increase your vdimm? i got the blue screen at 2400mhz

did a superpi1m at 2300mhz 1.5-3-3-5 39s
took strangely long to generate the .txt file (4s)...

and i need help with the last three settings on the tweaker, what does each do?

Damm. 2300 is nice. I was just wishing for 2000-2100 :)

Gona have to install windows again. Well, look at the bright side. I'm gonna install now linux on the second partition :D

hhaha i was kind of disappointed with 2300 considering what thestilt got. i mean, have you even seen this thread:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47052&page=1&pp=25
granted they've got more flexible options but still. 900+mhz overclock. its absurd..
2000 - 2300 is the same as 1800 - 2100 except its a smaller percentage increase. bear in mind i have a m755 dude =D
sorry the clockgen doesn't work for you. you gonna give the tweaker another shot and not touch the tRAS?
in CPU-Z what are your motherboard details? ASUS mobo? it says mine is made by KAPOK Model Intel 852/855GM chipset i855PM. i don't know why the clockgen would work for me but not for you
PM TheStilt or jjcom and see if they'll hook you up with the modded clockgen. good luck

Did some trials using the DFI ClockGen on my laptop. Looked as if it worked, but CPU-Z didn't report that the frequence had changed :/

I OC:ed my m9700r to 430ish core and 230ish memory, didn't complain at all.
Just a bit worried about the cooling...

you overclocked your 9700m TO 430/230? my defaults are 450/250....

cheers to that my friend :toast:

for others who are equally optimistic, you should also try the SetFSB for i855 chipsets. it also works on my comp and maybe it will work for you too. app can be found here: http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/ download the correct one depending on your southbridge chipset. i'm using the 1.5a. and make sure you get the file linked at the top of the page

the thing i like about SetFSB is that it allows changes to be made to the pci/agp bus independently of the fsb. however, i don't know if the pci/agp bus stays at that speed as cpuid clock gen shows a higher value. see screenie for details

does anyone know a reliable and accurate method of seeing what the agp/pci bus speed is?

@Sh33p: Yeh, I pressed "Refresh" like a madman, didn't report any changes tho, which to me seems odd.

Yeah, I was higher on the mr9700, but since I don't want the thing getting too hot I'll let it stay put at 430/230ish.

Seems really odd that the DFI-CG seems to work, but CPU-Z doesn't show it.
either the CG is not working, or something is fishy.... really fishy...

A suggestion to anyone with mobile radeons in their laptops. My mobility 9800 that was in my dell didn't oc worth a damn with the mobility drivers. But once I installed omega drivers (desktop catalysts that work on laptops), not only did the image quality of my games improve, but any bugs I had seen in my games before disapeared, performance was better...and it ended up overclocking like a beast to 400 core! :) So basically, do yourself a favor a go grab omega's modded drivers, they work great!

sh33p
01-14-2005, 03:25 AM
Ivan: In terms of clockgens look at what cpuid and setfsb have to offer. If there's nothing for the i852 then I think you're stuck. you can however try the i855 tweaker http://www.cpuid.org/download/Tw855.zip which also supports i852 based boards.

Warship: are you using the latest version of cpu-z? try setFSB and see if that works. if not then bad times i guess. sit tight and wait for thestilt to get back to us.

Enjoy: I am using the omega cats .97a still got some bugs in older games but they're alright. your 9800m is clocked below 400MHz at default?... if by "mobility drivers" you mean the drivers you download from dell i think they're crap. plus they're hardly ever updated. if you want to use the standard drivers on a mobility card the mobility modder http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/ works great too.

Ivan: There's no such thing as a "mobility driver" if you've ever tried to download a driver from the ATI website they will give you some spiel about the differences in screen size and whatnot making it impossible to publish a standardised set of drivers, since there is no standard.
Whats supposed to happen is that the company that manufactured your laptop will edit and release their own version of the drivers that fit your machine, so like, custom res and refresh rate settings. what ends up happening is most of these companies end up getting lazy and they don't bother releasing new drivers. I guess the dell drivers enjoy had might have had some kind of overclocking protection.

Warship: unlucky mate. well thestilt has been active lately he's posting everywhere but here. say, do you want to send him a PM asking him to link you the clockgen? I don't really want to do it because i'll come across like the whiny brat that i am. =p then you can send it to all of us and we can liberate our cpus

>>There's no such thing as a "mobility driver" if you've ever tried to download a driver from the ATI website they will give you some spiel about the differences in screen size and whatnot making it impossible to publish a standardised set of drivers, since there is no standard.

I know. However, they are the ones who make the drivers and then distribute them to the manufacturers to mod the infs for customs resolutions / etc.

>>I guess the dell drivers enjoy had might have had some kind of overclocking protection.

Stupid OEM's won't play with things like that if ATi doesn't implement them. However, they may have the option to turn it on and off, though.

Seems that if you're lucky, then you have the i855GM chipset in your laptop, and if you're not, you'll have the i855PM chipset.
Now I only hope that CPUID.org will make the ClockGen for the i855PM chipset, so I can do some major tweaking... I'd hate to have to do voltage-mods on a lappy. That'd be rather risky considering I only have 1 heatpipe...

I'm keeping my hopes up though.

there was a clockgen floating around, im not sure who had it. It was a "Secret clockgen" that you had to get through pm.
yeah man. can you or anyone you know on the forums hook us up with that? a lotta people squatting around this thread waiting for someone to show us the goods.

Sheep, yes...the Mobility 9800 is basically the exact same thing as a desktop 9700 Pro but with a few of the features of the X800 series, which is cool. However you can overclock it, as I said above, to around 400core with relative easy giving you around 9800 Pro/XT performance.

nah not exactly the mr9800 only has 6 pipelines 9800s got 8.

if i have a mr9700 thats set to 450/350 stock why does ATITOOL call it an M10? the mr9700 is supposed to be called the M11

um....wrong! buddy! If I have the DFI one that's on CPUID.com why would it take me so long to find it
The one I got is found on some non-english web site.

Hint: TO find the clockgen that actually works, please do not believe wat it wrote wat chiset it's actually for then ;) u will find it soon or after. That's the secret about it
Hint2: it's in CPUID.com :) as well but just didn't correspond to the chipset that u are looking for :) that's all I can say :)

ok, maybe I should be more nice :)
I will give u both links to get the clockgen that works for almost anyone with Pentium-M related mobos and a tweaker to change the memory options.

Memory Tweaker http://users.forthnet.gr/lar/papastergiou/tw_dfi855.zip

The so called secret Clockgen http://www.cpuid.com/download/CG-CY28346.zip

Remember once that PCI bus get to 38+MHz ur onboard sound card will not work 100% and may coz slow down and stutters during DVD, games, music, sounds related applications.

The clockgen does not support adusting AGP/PCI frequency for the version above, but FSB adjustment is available.

Two way to solve onboard sound issues is to be able to change frequency for AGP/PCI frequencies or buy an External Sound Card like the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 NX USB2.0 or the PCMCIA card ones.

My laptop is a HP compaq nx9030 with Dothan 1.6GHz & chipset i855GM.

I've tried to overclock it, but I'm note sure about FIX AGP/PCI. (with setfsb 1.5d version)

Who can help me? I've speedup to 133MHz FSB ...how should be AGP/PCI at that FSB frequency?

I have a ACER 4002wlmi

I can manage to force my 1.6 dothan to work at 2250mhz but pci/agp its too high and i lose sound at +/- 1900mhz.

Is there any way i can change the pci value?

At 2250mhz i get 35s at superpi 1mb :)

please help...

I'm pretty sure that the boards that we have are agp/pci unlocked so it doesn't matter. They will just go up with the fsb. If you can get a locked board then it would help a lot.

My sound dies at 1900 Mhz too.........how did you reach 2.25 Ghz then? Or did you just push past the sound dying?

sh33p
05-19-2005, 05:34 AM
I can push past the sound dying but at 2300 it just keeps blue screening and crashing. I find that pretty weak in comparison to everyone else mine's 2.0 stock.

That version of SetFSB is meant to be used with motherboards that use 950813BG PLL chip. I doubt that your laptop is using that PLL ;)

There is no universal Clockgen or SetFSB program for 855 or 852 series chipsets. You have to use software version which is designed for you PLL chip (if there is one).

Thinking about getting a laptop and have heard great things about Dothan's are they all great or only certain ones? I'm guessin its better to have one of the higher stock speed dothans to overclock since they have higher multis and the notebooks dont have agp/pci locks.

Looking at notebooks tonight and saw this one. Anyone know if its overclockable, not sure if any clockgen versions will work on this.

It's funny yet sad seeing how obsolete this thread is now.

Especially with Penryn and SSE4 round the corner those numbers are just going to drop even lower.

Is Pi 1M still even a good indicator of CPU performance or is it too quick now?

And one last thing, if I use a PCMCIA soundcard (Audigy 2 ZS Notebook) would it be affected by the increased AGP/PCI bus?

Thanks.

32M is a more appropriate indicator of system performance but I personally like 1024M with wPrime, gives a better indicator of complete performance vs single-threaded.

Oh holy crap zombie thread.. didn't realize. Ughhgghhghghgggggghhhhh Braiiiinnnnnnsssss
