the drive has win2k fat32 and win98se fat32, each has its own partition. The win98se had to be reformatted and installed. Now the windows choice startup option does not show up and win98se starts up right away. How do I bring such startup option back so I can make the choice which OS to boot?

The win98 is in the primary partition, and is active.

The win2000 is in the logical "volume" drive, and is not active.

both are in a single hard drive. I have already tried running some programs like "boot magic", "OSChooser", and other types of boot configuration utility but no go... it just won't detect the damn win2000 to get it to boot. It keeps booting up in stupid lammy ass crap win98 which i don't want to see.

Anybody know what files I need for win2k to boot?

i wish i could do that. I can't touch the fat32 win2k os files.. they don't want it touched. I recommended them to upgrade to full version of winXP instead of reinstalling win98 but they wouldn't listen.

my favs are:

- win2k NTFS

Take a careful look at http://www.cramsession.com/articles/files/dual-boot-windows-2000-9192003-1201.asp and proceed with caution.

In essence, if your Win98 install is on the C: drive, you can simply add c:\="Microsoft Windows" to boot.ini and it should work.

Two extra problems I haven't mentioned, the win2k partition is a Chinese version. I succeeded retrieving the boot selection OS menu but the win98 severely overwritten the bootsector files needed for the win2k to load (thanks to sjohnson).

Another is the motherboard is flakey, causing other problems..

the customer is planning to buy a new comp.

sjohnson, Great article.. :D I thank you deeply. That is a great information.

and also thanks to Bogie.
