Hi,
First of all, thanks to all of you for this great forum ! I've been lurking around here for about more than a year now i guess, and learned so   -ing much from you guys. :toast: I gained so much knowledge that i use in my job as a pc / server technician.
I had a question regarding socket478 and its future. How much longer is this socket gonna hold up, or in other words: how long will we still be able to buy cellies, northwoods etc and S478 MB's ?
And what about Celerons themselves... any idea, clues, or even wild guesses on how long it's gonna take before they stop production for this socket ?
Thing is that i was designated to choose the new hardware for a new production line of servers that record images / movies from security camera's. Important thing is that we need a socket that's gonna hold up for a while.
SocketA AMD's are not an option, as these will disappear kind of soon...
Even though i'm not an Intel fanboy (i loves my axp, loves my axp ;) ), i figured that socket 478 would be the best choice, as these servers' main task is to encode and compress uncompressed images (in which P4/cellies are not bad, or am i mistaking ?).
Other choices could be S754 or even S939, bute my boss told me that these are out of the budget range, since cheaper intels would perform the same (read: would suffice ;) ) for encoding/compressing tasks.
Are there any other choices / combinations i didn't think of ?
Thans in advance, any comment is appreciated :toast:
