For a really cpu intensive test use : CPU stability test or CPU bUrn.. Both pretty demanding

This is about all I can squeeze out of this chip on air I think. Still not bad though. The picture is fuzzy as i had to reduce it a little for the 200kb size limit on files.

Finally got my 3000+ into a board. Getting 2.5ghz at 1.65vcore. Sad that its so weak, getting 34second 1m.

I'm runing 2.5ghz and i'm gettig 36sec on 1m on PI. No worries here I think all we got to do is tweak the timings on the memory but i'm running all stock settings except memory timing to 2.5-3-3-7 @ 270 HTT @ 9x. All on stock setting :)

Little confused here, could do with some help from you lot as a64 overclocking is new to me.

System is 100% stable at 3 x 300 htt x 6 ( remove cpu bottleneck ) see screenie below.

This is with ram set to 100 in bios ( 150 real ) but if i up ram to 133 ( 180 ish ? ) pc does'nt boot.

ram is ballixtic pc4000 and runs perfect at 10*250 fsb 2.5-4-4-10 @ stock volts. so i know the ram is good to 250 fsb.

have no idea at all where the cpu limit is, really difficult to find it's limit. ( what programs/tests are people using to test stability ?? ) the pc is used for gaming so need's to be 100% 3d stable always 24/7. ( heard about problems with prime95 so maybe 3dmark05 instead? )

cpu does 300 htt at stock volts no errors/problems ( is that normal or ? )

Is there anyway to get this situation with my current setup.

a64 3500
2x 512 ballistix
msi k8n neo2
1.5xx bios atm.
sata hd on sata port 3.

Id like to be running

the ram at 200 2-2-2-5 ( it does this already ) but the cpu at highest possible cpu speed.

so do i try to find a answer between ram deviders 133-166 and so on and htt speed and exactly how do the ram clock's relate to htt like when i set to 100 and run htt at 300 ram runs at 150.

Thank's in advance for any info a64 clocking is alot more stressful than nf2 mobile 2600 clocking lol that was really easy ( 2.8 ghz ).

Wish this was as easy :p

oh and not sure on cpu week number forgot to check before i stuck the waterblock on which i dont wanna take of again :P, but the cpu was bought 2 month's ago from overclockers.co.uk if anyone know's what sort of batch's they had back then, they've been outta stock for ages now on winnie 3500's.

ilal2ielli
01-01-2005, 10:39 PM
htt is used to determine the cpu's clock speed. the 3500+ winchester has a default multiplier of 11 (200httx11=2200mhz). now, ram speed is calculated down from the cpu clock speed. running 1:1 or as the neo2 bios puts it "200" will match your memory frequency to the htt frequency, but running any of the other memory settings will set your memory frequency based upon a divider from the cpu clock.

since you say you've tested your ram to 250, you can try running 11x250 and use prime95 or superpi to test for stability. i usually test superpi first. if it finishes one iteration of 32mm superpi, then i'll begin to prime it for at least 6-8 hours. if you want to use a 3dmark to test stability, you need to use 3dmark01 since it is more cpu dependent than the other 3dmarks.

if you want to use a high htt frequency then you'll most likely need to use the dividers for your memory frequency. when you change the htt frequency, it's best to use 4x for anything up to 250, and 3x for anything up to 300 and so on. you don't want your htt to go over 1000 (htt x htt multi), as it can cause unneeded instablity.

if i missed anything, be sure to ask, and if i dont answer in time, i'm sure someone else will.

Looks like 47 TPEW to me :)

My 0446SPAW looks like it should do its 2700 which i want it to. I'm not demanding at all, i just require a 50% overclock otherwise i'll get a new one. And i want FX-53 performance for €130. Not demanding at all :D

might wanna lower the voltage on that. 1.76v for 2.53 is too much vcore, my old 3000+ week 37 did 2.5 at 1.55v.

well if you're comfortable running the vcore that high to have 2.53, i guess you'll be fine.

Wow! Just checked my temps while playing cod and I saw 56 but only for a second. 55 seems to be at load. :slobber: What is the limit for 3000+ winchesters?? Also what direction should the case door fan be facing? Right now I have it pulling air away from my cpu and video card. Would turning it around help temps any?

amilian

56 is still ok, but beyond this and you will likely notice instability issues. start to worry when it's 65 and over. yes, turn the fan around.

Hi, 2 questions:

- What is the recommended MINIMUM voltage for Winchester, and what is the MAXIMUM? (ON AIR)

- Now, that we have already prove that some Winchesters don't like Prime95, what is the recommend alternative currently?

- Also, I have a very annoying issue: My Winchester "flucatates" in 0.1mhz every few seconds, goes 0.1mhz down and goes 0.1mhz back. Vcore changes also. CPU is 3200+, mobo is Neo2 Platinum with 1.36b bios.

Thanks in advance !!!

I just made an attempt to read the thread again since I last posted to check on other peoples overclocks to see how they were going with the new batches of chips. There's as many and if not more people hijacking the thread for help, than there are people posting their overclocks.
Is it so hard to start a new topic in the appropriate forum if you need help instead of messing up a nice sticky thread that has the hard facts and figures from different peoples setups that others want to know and analyze? I guess I'm making a little request and having a rant to say a) Can we get this thread cleaned up pretty please! With icing, sugar sprinklings and a cherry on top! b) STOP HIJACKING THE THREAD PLEASE (sorry for caps, it needs to be shouted and repeated until the thread gets back on track!

Hey Guys,
I have a few glitches with my system. If I overclock it to anything more than 2.5GHz it will just restart itself. And for the cpuid result.. Im not sure why it didnt update the voltage on there....

I have just flashed my BIOS and managed to get it to do that superpi in 36 secs instead of 38 secs but restarted itself just after taking the screeny :(

I hope I can get these minor glitches fixed soon...

I'm gonna change my cpu/mobo to a64 and I don't know which cpu to buy. I was looking for 0441 but with no results. My friend told me he has 045OUPMW & 0444XPEW. I know that 44 week overclocks to about 2500MHz but what about the 50? Anyone heard about overclockig results? I'm gonna put the phase-change on my cpu, hope to go over 3GHz.

Alec - could you please post some more info about your proc? Thx.

Well. I have a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester socket 939 CPU with a Venus 12 fan and heatsink ontop of it. Usually runs at around 37 degrees (33 degrees or less when idle... 45 degrees heavy load and 50 degrees + when overclocked to around 2.5GHz)
I ordered it on boxing day from aria.co.uk I did wrtie down the number which was on the chip itself but I have misplaced the piece of paper I wrote it on...

My motherboard is the Abit AV8 type with 256mb of Corsair XMS3700 RAM (sadly running at CAS3 :( ).

My system tends to restart itself if I try to run superpi with the RAM timings altered so it is running equivelent to CAS2.5. The absolute maximum I can get out of my CPU at this curent time is 2.5GHz, anything more and i will just restart itself.

I also have a Radeon 9800Pro which doesnt like 3d benchmarking when my system is overclocked (anything over about 2.2GHz and it will randomly halt my system...)

I hope this helps, I will try to get hold of that number for you ASAP.

dude your gonna have to divide your ram and find the max cpu OC.
then lower the cpu multi and find the max ram OC.

after that you can find a good medium. :toast:

I use 300 htt with 133 ram devider so ram is running at 200 2-2-2-5 multi @ 8 x
cpu speed 2400 primes stable this is when i clock it from within windows. ( clockgen )

But if i try to set these settings in the bios pc wont even boot into the bios gets stuck on the first screen.

a64 3500

1.36 beta bios
using sata 3
fan ( chassis ) plugged into cpu header.
cpu is prime stable at these speed's just wont set in bios and boot :/

dont mind the vcore in the screenie was trying to rule out voltage problems.

I have been talking to one of mytechie friends and he said that the reason why I cant seem to get above 2.5GHz is because my motherboad and RAM is not designed to run at anything above 250MHz FSB. He said that cooling and quality of RAM is the key component. I have Corsair XMS3700 RAM (CAS3) which can go upto over 500MHz FSB and I have a Venus 12 CPU fan. With the fan on max and the cpu core voltage set to 7.5V / 7.25V my cpu runs at 50 - 60 degrees with the fan full on.
What temparatures do you all get when runing at higher FSBs than 250MHz?

Thanks,
Alec

i get from 33C-54C at load w/ 260x10, and 265x10. and 285x9. But the temps on this Neo2 are pretty inaccurate. Now I'm at 33C w/ the side panel off my case. System temp always stay @ 19C-25C at load and sometimes higher at idle according to bios.

Just read your article. Great info. However, I just wanted to point out that passing Prime95 doesn't mean system is stable. I have experience personally CPU running 2 instances of Prime95 (Max FPU stress and Max heat) for over 12hrs w/o any problems but won't run UT2004 and HL2 properly.

Thus, stability can't be tested on just Prime95, have to loop games like UT and 3Dmark as well.

jikdoc
01-13-2005, 04:14 PM
like to add about prime95 and stability. if it does pass prime, chances are more likely that freezes, instability with games are due vga overclock/driver issues, game config files etc. i tore my hair out trying to get hl2, d3 stable on a system that passed prime. it was only when i scaled down my gfx oc and or removed some game config tweaks that things became stable. that being said, the same gfx overclock that was hl2/d3 unstable was stable looping 3dmark.

I have no clue how you guys get such crazy OC at such low voltages. Mem is 2x512 Corsair Value Select at 166:200.

I'm Prime stable at 250x10 for 24 hours, didn't try longer, at that voltage, but anything above that is meh

At 248x10.5=2605Mhz, I can only Pi up to 64k at that voltage :(

I still have to pluck up the courage to bother removing my xp-90 and getting that info. I've hit it's limits with heat at 1.6V upwards and have a star ice sitting idle here. Eventually when I get bored I'll install it and do that as it is a nice clocker and I'm sure it will hit 2.8Ghz plus at 1.8V. stable at 2.7 @ 1.55 atm

Just another note after reading some more of the above.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester)

Radeon 9800Pro
Venus 12 cpu fan

Managed to benchmark 3dmark 2k1 when overclocked to 2.4GHz
http://host366.net/pics/overclock/omfg.JPG
Managed to benchmark in SuperPi when overclocked to 2.65GHz
http://host366.net/pics/overclock/65.JPG
I had to make the RAM much more high latency to cope with the high FSBs. Thats why the SuperPi score is quite bad considdering the speed my CPU was running at. I am looking to get some much better, low latancy Corsair RAM in the future, though.

I did try 2.7GHz but pc locked up... Shall try later on when it has cooled down.

Thanks,

Actually many Winchesters can test Prime95 without issues :)

Otherwise there's Stress CPU, Super PI 32M, 3dMark01, folding perhaps?

I must repeat this once again. Winchester is a HORRIBLE name! "Winnie" makes me want to drag some person off the street and inflict random violence upon them... :D

They might as well be naming the Winchester - "pooh bear." Newcastles - "Eeyore" and the FX chips "Hunny". Let's not forget the budget "piglet" chips too heh

Thanks, amilian!
I did manage to run superpi at 2.65GHz with my RAM tightened to CAS2.5 and managed to do it in 34 seconds.

I am considdering buying some nice OCZ VX RAM and possibly a RAM booster. Then I should get superPi results within 32 seconds; I may also be able to get higher FSBs outa my RAM so I could overclock even further.

Another option I am thinking of is getting watercooling or vapour phase change cooling....

So we have some nice winnies here. I would love to see if any of these 2.7ghz+ oc's would benefit from water cooling. My 3500+ 0437 does 2.7ghz at 1.65 on water. Never tried air cooling but just wondering if water is even helping at all.

which one would you choose?

If I were you, I would try the 0450 UPAW. I've got a winnie (3200+) UPcW and that's a nice one

Nice ram wow.. I've never seen TCCD run that tight that high...
Sorry for the small size of the screens, I shrank them a bit too much for the quality.

Everest says
8033mb/s read
3143mb/s write
Sandra says
7552mb/s int.
7449mb/s float
Why sandra and everest read scores are so different, I don't know...But the 8k in everest was cool. Those benches were taken at 285, which isn't totally stable, memtest comes up with a couple errors, as will a 32M pi run, which is why I said the ram is really only stable up to 283 with those timings. But it's a moot point, since it won't do 295 1:1 which is what the processor wants so I run it with a 183 divider via A64 tweaker.

Is that 300MHz on GSkill ram, if so LA or LE and 2x512 or 2x256? I have the exact same chip/week/steppings and 2.7 even is as far as I can go. Let me know your results!

this is not the max at that voltage

What are the temps on this voltage? If I set +0,1V on my cpu, its temperature can easily hit 67C. Maybe because i didn't apply my own thermal paste but left the original which was on the cooler already...
