The XS logo contest. We are looking for a new Logo something possessing the spirit and direction of this site. For the winner of this contest I will custom build a single stage phase change system with voltage requirments fitting the winner's home. (220-240/100-120V 50/60 hz) so where ever you are or what everyou do this is the phase change you have been looking for -45 to -50C loaded mounting by Ssilencer with extra mounts for 775/a64 and one blank for future use. Included will be roll of foam tape and roll seal string.
So there it is. Let's see what you guys are made of.

There are no pictures of the unit because the winner will dictate what they want... The only thing that we know for sure is what will be on it. The logo you design.

now what i was wondering seeing all this. do we create a logo just so, or a logo that fits (or better SHOULD fit) into the existing layout of the board software - that's what i was thinking about. after all "just" a logo to put on bumperstickers, cases, etc. etc. is a whole lot different from what's useable in a header for this board, boardstyle kinda.
atm i'm thinking about something to replace the logo you see up left. - if it's "just" a backdrop sort of thing, coming with a complete background and all that, it's something way different. without wanting to err.. (what ever the word is).. dis-respect (?) the entries made so far, but i think i have yet to see one that would be useable as board-header replacement for what we have right now.

if it's more a standalone logo used for merchandise, most of the stuff presented here up to now would work just fine. but is this what is asked? :)

Always work big, all the time. Scaling down is 20x easier then scaling up. (Most of my stuff is done at at least 1280x1024)

yes, you are right, but i don't own the pro-version of terragen, so i only can make images in 1024x786, so its a little problem for me, but i will do my best!

Not too bad if you ask me, though. Getting an image to look good is only part of the skill set required. Being able to come up with good ideas and being able to visualize them well enough that they can be done is a large part ;)

As to terrains, why not make custom FarCry levels for your terrain, then run the game at 1600x1200 or something. Sure it would be slow maybe, but it would work and i'm sure its much more flexible than terragen? :D

I have to agree that we need to start refraining from wallpaper-like 'logo's'

What we need, and I assume this contest is for, is a LOGO, or isotype as Vryada put it. massive graphics / landscapes / backgrounds / colors / etc... are all unnecessary. (This includes most of what i've put up so far :))

We need fresh ideas, basic lines and curves, a little text, all comprising a simple, yet solid LOGO.

I also think we need to leave the circle with the X in it alone. That was someone's original idea, (Twisted's ?) and it's not right that we change a few colors, run it through a filter, throw it on a cool background and call it our logo. Again, this includes some of my posted work in this thread too :)

A true logo should stand on it's own, without colors, or backgrounds. Think of something that would represent XS as simply as possible, while still being original.

Look at these two examples, Intel and AMD:

Both very simple, yet solid and easy to remember logo's. They stand on their own, no fancy colors or textures needed.

Output your logo with only solid black, and white. No grayscale even. See if it stands up and yells at you: THIS IS XTREMESYSTEMS LOGO!

Once you have accomplished this, there is no problem in fancy-ing it up ;) a bevel, drop shadow, some color ... take a look at this:

Some dictionaries don't even have 'logo' in them, they refer to the parent word, logotype.

I'll have to rework the colors i've been using, though. I prefer dark colors and XS uses lighter ones.. hmm.. maybe i'll have to work in darn then invert the colors ;) :D
