I like the ABIT AA8-Duramax.

Thoughts?

I was looking at the new DFI LGA775 board using the i875 chipset....allows you to use your nice ram and AGP graphics card. Also has good voltage options.

The board looks Hot, but I need more then 2 SATA controllers.

BTW, Thi is going to be a complete new build, so no old parts will be used.

I would go for a combo board (i865 or i875) since they don't have any overclocking restrictions. I don't know exactly what the best motherboard is though, being a 478 man. No graphics cards have taken advantage of AGP 8x yet and DDR2 RAM has incredibly bad latencies. As for CPU, it would be worth saving up for a nice shiny EE since they are currently the best performing chips from Intel at this moment. In the graphics department, 6800 or X800 are the 2 best cards on the market right now. Either one will give you great results. Finally memory: I don't know what the absolute best memory is right now and I get bored of keeping track, so maybe someone else could help you there.

I also vote for the dfi 875 very nice..

but however.. if you want totally new parts... keep in mind with ddr2 and pci-e already here.. having an agp mobo+ddr 1 would limit your upgradeability.. you'll still be king of the hill for a while but eventually to upgrade you'd need a new mobo, ram, gpu, and mayb cpu..

as for best rams.. lately the best ram is the crucial Ballistix pc4000 does 2-2-2-5-1t no problems at stock.. and mine can do 2225-1t full PAT even at 226fsb.. quite powerful stuff I'd say.. ($145 for a stick of 512mb)..

as for ddr2.. corsair recently introduced the low latency ddr2 sticks.. 3-3-3-8 if i recall correctly.. thats pretty good for ddr2 when most are 4-4-4-12

OCZ is supposedly working on EB 667 ddr2 but there is no word on how that is going so who knows. 538mhz @ 3-3-3-8 is damn good, imo, be far the best DDR2 out now.

$.02

I would use some good ole BH-5 (1GB), the new DFI 875 board and a 3.6Ghz or 3.8Ghz Prescott (775 of course) if I were to build right now...
