Kingston HyperX "UPDATE BH5's"256MB 3200 CL2 2-2-2 $44!!!

http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3325952

it would be amazing if these were BH-5's, the volts and SPD makes me believe they are, but no way outpost has BH5's in stock, or just got some. I ordered some overnight shipping for less than $9 for shipping overnight. I ordered the Patriot 1gig kit for $158 yesterday and got it today.

Whatever They are, BH5 or Samsung 222 chips, $44 is a good price even for generic memory.

The very first kingston that I bought back when Opp was first praising it used 2.5v and then later on the 2.6. The 2.5 had better results, which probably means that the later is not BH5

Hey guys, these sticks are 168 pin and not 184 pin.

Can anyone explain this? I thought 168 pin RAM was for the old school PC-133 style modules.

Kingston HyperX 256MB 3200 CL2 KI Speed 400 168 Pin

Double Data Rate PC 3200 Memory:
Outpost #: 3325952
This document describes Kingston's 32M x 64-bit (256MB) DDR400 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) CL2 memory module, based on eight 32M x 8-bit DDR TSOP components. This module has been tested to run at DDR 400MHz at low latency timing of 2-2-2-5 at 2.7V. This 184-pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers and requires +2.6V.

Edit: I think they made a typo. First they mention 168 pin, then in the description they mention 184 pin. - My bad.

I bought four sticks of it. Since I can run 4x512 @ 7-3-3-2.5 on this machine, I'm hoping I can do the same with 4x256 @ 5-2-2-2. If not, I should be able to at least break even selling them.

Overnight shipping is DIRT CHEAP!

It was like $7 ground $9 2day and $10 overnight for me.

Outpost/frys has been having some really good deals without any MIR rebates lately. Maybe they are trying to turn their perception as a crappy reseller around.

They are single sided. Outpost has killer prices on their overnight and they ship in the middle of the night. Someone @ another forum told me outpost shares their warehouse with DHL, And they work all night so they even ship out @ 3am. I ordered the 10 sticks above and a visionteK x800 pro they had on sale. $329 and shipping for it all overnight was $13.35!!!! That's crazy overnight prices.

I put them in my sig rig and slammed the volts to them 260 1:1 2-2-2 @ 3.48volts actual. They will do 235 fsb 1:1 2-2-2 in my other rig a IS7-e that's not modded and 2.8 volts to the memory. Whcih is pretty good for low volts.

Lithan

I was looking at emptying my savings for it, but you figure after ebay fees and shipping and such. You'd have to get about $60 a stick before it started to become worth it. And nowadays, $120 is about all you can get for a 256x2 kit of most bh5. And HyperX isn't considered valuable like Mushkin 3500 lvl2 is.

At $90 a pair it's a great freaking deal. at $90 + shipping + ebay fees + paypal fees + your time to list, pack, ship, etc + gas and car wear to Post office. I figure you are looking at $105 easily as your cost. Still a nice price, but nothing you'd die for missing. And frankly, I wouldn't expect 256meg sticks to appreciate much anymore.

Hey Tedinde, whereabouts you at in DE? I'm about five minutes from hockessin. I ordered around 9 EST. I wonder if they'll arrive tomorrow.

as far as i know Samsung TCCD chips can't do above 220Mhz at 5-2-2-2 no matter how high the voltage is..

so if u can OC your newly arrived RAM ABOVE 220Mhz with 5-2-2-2 timing.. definitely u've got a BH5..

I use a small pocket knife and put a small piece anything plastic under my "lever" point when prying off the little silver clips. Then you have to pry gently on the Heatspreaders to get them off of the tape.

guys.. all the RAMs u've received so far.. does it look like a brand new unit or refurbished unit ?

need some info..

how do you refurbish memory?? And even if it is refurb, it's been checked by the factory to run @ 2.2.2.5.1 specs before it could go back out!!

but this memory isnt refurbished, there isnt a scratch on them And upon "smelling" them they smell just like a brand new Motherboard,

Same as when you buy a car with that new car smell. You can tell!!!.

Again do not hestitate if your wanting BH5's, you all do realize $44 is the price of Most Generic/ budget memory. There is no way you can go wrong. it's not like your buying BH5 when it was really running short and it was over double that price.

I've ordered 16 sticks so far. And soon as 3 people pick up the computers i have waiting for them. Im going to really stock up. I've got a small computer business and when i find a good deal, i stock up.

3 years ago when crucial dropped the bottom out of the memory market and hurt a lot of their competitors by dropping their PC2100 below $30, quite a few memory makers went under. Toshiba for one. I bought 50 sticks from Crucial on my resellers licence for $24 per stick. One month later the taiwan earth quake sent the price of decent 256 DDR sticks to over $100.

I ended up selling the stuff on ebay for $75-85 per stick.

You got PM.

You have to offer what dell doesnt!! And hustle a lot. Plus you would be surprised how good "CUSTOMER SERVICE" will take you and word of mouth. You will find calling dell to buy a computer, they will answer on the 1st or 2nd ring. Then give them a call for service and you will find you have to push 20 buttons on the phone, only to be routed to a terrible connection to customer service in India!!!!

Even if the late supplies arnt BH-5, its still cheap for even normal 256mb sticks. I do hope that they do have BH-5 left.

Not definitely. But, you have to think. If kingston sold them their RMA stock of BH5, they didnt just send them 256ers', so I think Outpost are just selling them through the 3200A, instead of placing up a new Item. I bought a 512mb stick yesterday, it will be here tomorrow.

Definately let us know if the 512 sticks are bh-5 !@

You can easily peel off the spreaders with a small flat head screwdriver or butter knife. Anything flat you can lift the edge of the spreader with without hitting components.

I've pulled off atleast 10-15 sticks and have never even come close to damaging them or having anything else wrong with them. If your cautious and SLOW you can peel them moff without a hitch. They're only put on with crappy thermal tape and some have a thin layer of sticky epoxy looking stuff. Of course it's up to you on whether you wanna pull them off or not :D

Geia sou kai sena :D

Some info.........about them....... ;)

I got 4 piecies of them and they ALL are with BH-5 chips onboard and do the following it VERY hot conditions - add about 5 - 7MHz more on them when the work cold with some fan blowing on them :

1. Stick No1 : Does 242MHz(484MHz DDR) with 3.2Vdimm and Cas 2 - 5 - 2 - 2 error free.....

2. Stick No2 : Does 237MHz(474MHz DDR) with 3.2Vdimm and Cas 2 - 5 - 2 - 2 error free........

3. Stick No3 : Does 241MHz(472MHz DDR) with 3.2Vdimm and Cas 2 - 5 - 2 - 2 errorfree EXEPT the test "5" of the Memtest-86.......In test "5" I get a lot of errors....So I thought that this stick is with CH-5 chips on board...I opened it and it's also with BH-5 ones...Strange.....Anyways , I put the timings of it at Cas 2 - 5 - "3" - 2 and it does 255MHz(510MHz DDR) error free......No errors with the "3"......It acts like a CH-5 one....... ;)

4. Stick No4 : Put it on and I hear this sound : Beeeeppppp - beeeeppppp - beeeeppppp.....I say WTF is going on here?........Did I put it on right?........I took it off and reput it on.......Beeeepppp - beeeeppppp........Same thing......I took it off and I took a good look on it and GUESS WHAT !!........The tiny SPD chip with the 8 legs was MISSING.......Shi(f)t I said.......Now what?.......I had a PC2700 - well one of them - :D and I unsolder the SPD chip and I solder on the HyperX stick......Finaly it works at 241MHz(482MHz DDR) with Cas 2 - 5 - 2 - 2 and 3.2Vdimm error free..... :)

Beware out there you guys with those sticks......If you're about to get some - if any left - you must be sure that they work....... :)

EDIT : ALL of them where with BH-5 chips and they where different revisions ......Revisions : A.00 = old PCB and DOUBLE SIDED - A.01 NEW PCB single sided BUT BAD contact of the heatspreaders - A.02 NEW PCB single sided and better contact of the heatspreaders due to more(double)sillicon stiker in it.... ;)

BH-5 for SURE......BUT as I figured out the Revision A.01 has problems with the "contact" of the heatsinks onto the chips........Poor contact if any!!........You must do something about that .......The Revision A.02 is OK(so-so) coz they have put some EXTRA silicone sticker so as to make better contact....... ;)

Yes they are new all right........As for the contact ,take a look on them on the "side" of them....not on the botton.....mine is only contacting in the corners of the chips...

BH-5 for SURE......BUT as I figured out the Revision A.01 has problems with the "contact" of the heatsinks onto the chips........Poor contact if any!!........You must do something about that .......The Revision A.02 is OK(so-so) coz they have put some EXTRA silicone sticker so as to make better contact....... ;)

ALSO the Revision A.00 is a VERY old PCB and it propably must be DOUBLE SIDED........BUT it works fine..... ;)

Since I'm a newb what would you suggest I do to get the most out of my ram?

All of my sticks are A.02 except one which is a A.01. Should I remove the heatspreaders completely? Should I remove spreaders and the stock thermal tape and replace it with Arctic Silver and put the spreaders back on?

Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't put AS on ramsinks. Too much risk it'll smear onto traces or contacts.

And yeah. A01 has really poor contact. I'm not removing the spreaders myself because I'm probably reselling the stick, and they can remove them or leave them on as they choose. But I'd say only 20-30% of the contact area is actually making contact.

only use arctic silver ceramique on ram.

I got a huge tube of Ceramique. Would it be a good idea to pull the heat spreaders, remove the thermal tape, apply ceramique, and put the heatspreaders back on?

I have heard removing the heatspreaders is pretty easy - just put them in the freezer for about 10 minutes and the clips come right off.

True?

If you are going to void the waranty by taking off the heat spreaders, why not just put some real ramsinks on instead of the spreader.

The best will be to remove the heatspreaders of them , go and buy some cooper heatsreaders and put them on WITH some Ceramique on them too..... ;)
