I'm really tempted, but I've never been a fan of ATI (I always bought ATI cards cause nvidia cards sucked arse) never liked the drivers cause they stunk it up on linux.

But I'll be using this mostly for gaming. I'm really tempted to buy the ASUS X800 PRO Vivo on newegg ; http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-121-519&depa=1

What do you guys think? Easy mod to X800 XT PE w/ bios flash or is there a +10% chance of error?

Let me know if its worth the upgrade.

I used my eVGA 6800GT @ 400/1100 24/7

Wow, I was thinking the same thing.
I have a couple 6800GTs that aren`t responding to freezing well at all. I was considering the...:cring: ATI X800 Pro VIVO too. There`s a thing on how to MOD the card to get the extra 4 pipelines or whatever in this thread. (http://forums.limitededitionsolutions.com/index.php?showtopic=34)

I thought all you needed to do to enable 4 pipes on a vivo was flash to XT bios?

I realy don`t know as I haven`t been paying attention to ATI at all(the whole Chevy vs Ford thing), but I`d rather do the mod in that thread as it sounds easy and flashing can be risky....and I was told they don`t throttle at all when frozzen.

You think flashing a card is more dangerous than taking a razor to the GPU?

As I understand it that guide is for regular X800 Pro's with week 11 or week 16 chips that are in actuallity X800 XTs with physically disabled pipes. Whereas all VIVO's are 16 pipes with 4 of them disabled thru bios.

So if we were to buy a vivo all we would have to do is flash :)

I placed an order for the ASUS and I'll be returning the EVGA if all goes well.

I'll let you know if the flash worked fine or not :D

No I won't be putting phase change on video card. I'm more of a gamer than I am bencher. And besides I got into a few MMORPG beta's that I wanna try out :D

Man I know ASUS has a history of having weird parts on cards but I hope this card has 1.6ns memory on it.

I got the ASUS X800 PRO TVD (it says VIVO on newegg site) it has samsung 1.6ns memory on the back, I tried to flash it with the X800 XT retail bios (BBA) and the gigabyte bios and even the damn ASUS X800 XT PE bios. None of them worked to unlock the pipes, still showed 12 pipelines in ATITOOL.

Not to mention the K8N NEO2 Plat is pissing me off and not working right so I turned it off and I'm going to wait to return it.

Gonna take off the heatsink on the X800 and see if its a week 11 / 16 and make sure the top part of the card also has the same 1.6ns memory.

I was so damned sure all you needed to enable 4 pipes on a vivo was flash it but I guess ASUS fixed that for me (bastards!)

EDIT: WORKS!!! I used the modified Flashrom and flashed with the latest X800 XT PE BBA bios and now I have 16 pipes :D

nice, but alot of money to go from a 6800 GT to x800xt, not gonna be a huge performance increase i dont think

Huh? ASUS X800 PRO vivo cost $50 more than 6800 GT and it came with a TON of stuff, like webcam / games etc.

+ $450 for a $550+ vid card performance = great

ASUS X800 PRO TVD (VIVO) flashed to BBA X800 XT PE = cool :toast:
