I'm building a system for a friend from work and had a couple questions about the Abit BD7II (non raid).

Does it actually come with an onboard modem? Couldn't find anything about it on Abit's web site (know about the onboard Lan and sound).

2nd question - Does the AC'97 only support 2 channel sound on this particular mobo (I think the raid version has the 6 channel)? I need to know because otherwise am ordering him a Santa Cruz sound card.

Thanks for any input...much appreciated.

I haven't seen any motherboard with built-in modem.

Also, I think both version (non-RAID and RAID) have 6-channel sound.

The reason I posted that about the modem being "onboard", was I read one review that said that and really wondered about it. It is confusing about whether the sound is 2 ch or 6 ch...I think just the raid version might have the 6 channel sound.

Thanks for the answer.

I won't be letting go of this equipment especially the headphone amp for quite some time. :)

The amp cost me lots of money and even more lots of sweat just to make it as good as it is now. :)

ps. Trust me when I say both boards have 6 channel sound. :)
BD7-2 (non-RAID) (http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bd7ii/) and BD7-2 RAID (http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bd7iiraid/).

Thanks for the heads up on the BD7 boards definitely having 6 ch sound...still want to build the box with the Santa Cruz though.

I thought of getting a better sound card than the on-board sound. But for my purposes, watching divx and games now and then, it's just perfect. :)

I have a BD7II without RAID and it comes without an onboard modem and the AC'97 onboard sound is only 2 channel
