View Full Version : Dead A64's?

Back when A64's were newer, people were frying a lot of them due to high vdimm--I even fried one myself.

It seems as though either no one is talking about it anymore, or the problem has been corrected? Also, I remember a thread that said how to avoid vdimm deaths but I cannot find it...

Is this still a problem, or is there some guidlines to follow?

It seems there were a bunch of factors. The popularity of the Shuttle AN50R and it's vdimm fluctuations is one that help killed them. The idea AMD improved them with the CG's comes into play as well. I think the consensus is it's "safer" now but should be considered at least a little.

I fried mine with a K8V-Delux

I want to do the mod again with my K8NNXP but I am a little hesitant.

I fried my C0 with 3.6V and a chaintech ZNF3-250.

I fried my C0 with 3.3v... I don't know how I exactly did it, but it happened. Does it make a difference if the computer is on or off when you adjust voltage?

Now that I have a CG stepping cpu, I hope that makes a difference. I would sure hate to fry a 3700+.

I did the same as you, I hope this CG 3700+ will last.

My week 50/03 3400+ survived 6 months of abuse in the notorious AN50R and still works perfectly fine now in my DFI LanParty.
My Shuttle board was Vdimm modded but i actually never went over 3,3Vdimm.

I've never seen a board dissapearing from the scene as quick as the Shuttle AN50R.
When it came out it was the board to have, now it seems the DFI has taken over it's title.

what voltage are you running @2.6ghz? I just got this cpu a few weeks ago and haven't really had the time to do some overclocking...

I havn't touched it. I was running my C0 at 2680MHz with 1.6V core. I have a little stack of high end gear waiting for the DFI board. (3700+, 2GB of BH5 in 256M and 512M sticks, and a X800 XT)

That's nice... it may have been my GB of memory at 1:1, but I couldnt seem to get over 2.55ghz at stock voltage..
