Another dead IT7! Power mosfet blew (2nd one down from the top). What the hell has happened to the quality of your boards Abit? Thats my 3rd board in 3 months - 2 IT7s and 1 IT7-2.

Any thoughts on what to replace it with? ATM I have no pc and am having to use a friends, so I need a board again ASAP. Right before dual ddr came out :(. Damn thing only had to last a couple more weeks....

FYI - cant check email at the moment but can check PMs, so if any of you need to get in touch with me thats the best way.

"In September 2002, reports started to surface in the United States among
brand name computer manufacturers that there were problems with low-ESR
aluminum capacitors produced in Taiwan. Apparently, a poor-quality,
water-based electrolyte had been supplied to multiple manufacturers of
low-ESR aluminum electrolytic capacitors in Taiwan. Our intelligence sources
in Taiwan later confirmed that as many as eleven manufacturers of low-ESR
aluminum capacitors in Taiwan might have been exposed to the poor
electrolyte. The electrolyte, which is a locally produced knock-off of the
Japanese P-50 type water-based system, was produced without the proper
additives required to stave off excess hydrogen gassing. Consequently,
aluminum capacitors produced with the P-50 knock-off tend to fail
catastrophically, by blowing open the rubber seal and leaking liquid
electrolyte on the printed circuit board. These failures reportedly occur at
half the rated lifetime of the components. "

How bad did it burn? Hopefully it didn't char the board or anything else nearby.

You might be able to just replace the MOSFET with one rated for more power for a few bucks. One of those small black transistor heatsinks would be worthwhile on the replacement.

Pilsy If you wait a week or two the IT7-MAX2 rev. 2 will be available.

It will use the higher bandwidth/IPC chipset i845PE, hopefully ECS will hands off of Abit soon.

I hav a BD7 (ECS manufactured) that does not pass 160MHz external CPU frequency.

Sorry to here that Pilsy, my friend.

I have given up on Abit for the time being. I know they will eventually get their QA problems worked out, but I'm not willing to be a test bed.

I am right now awaiting arrival of an EpoX 8K9A2+. I won't be able to put it through its paces for a couple of weeks since I'm on a business trip, but as soon as I have something to report I will certainly let the group know.

Does the 4g4a+ have a 3:4 divider? If it does, then it looks like a very good option now, instead of abit. I just RMAed my IT7 because it mysteriously stopped working. I wouldn't buy a board that only has a 4:5 though, you can't get the most out of your memory that way. If it doesn't have one, are there any non-abits that do, that are worth buying?

Well it turned out it was down to the power company. Serious electric spikes overnight culminating in total power failure this morning. Looks like its all gonna be replaced. God only knows how long its going to take though.

Still, it was the epox board I was considering. I have to say though my Epox experience thus far has been less than stellar.

The 4G4A+ has the 3:4 and 4:5 dividers.

Are you sure? I thought so too but I just checked out a couple of reviews for it and I only see 1:1, 4:5 and 5:4. I'd like to try one of these out if someone can show me something that says it does have the 3:4 ratio:)

I had a 4G4A+ when they first came out, what a pos that was, I know that the first batches of 4G4A+ were pretty bad overall, just hunt around some forums to see what I mean. I'm not sure if the quality has been stepped up, I have not really seen to many people have success with 4G4A+. The P4B-533 is a solid board but has limitations with the memory to fsb dividers, at least with the few bios'es that I played with, stick with the IT7 Pilsy and buy an APC so you dont have to worry about the voltage spikes.

Where can I get one of those Epox 4PEA boards from? Was looking last night but couldnt find anywhere that had them. Would be after the + version as well though (need the highpoint raid).

4g4a+ is good board...no problems when I had my cpu up to 3.5ghz or 450+DDR and it does have 3:4 ratio by jumper.

Cheers marci :).

Would be grand if you could pick me one up. Other news - claiming the radeon on house insurance when the power went. Along with a 40 gig IBM, 30 gig fujitsu, isdn card, sblive, IT7, sparkle 400 watt psu, network card and 2 sticks of corsair PC3200 memory :p.

Wheeeee............

I must say PiLsY, your not the only one having problems. To date, there have been only 2 users on the forums back home, who have had any success with the KD7.
