Just playing with my new dual 1.6GHz Xeon w/HT setup and so far I'm very impressed. Running the processors in an Asus PC-DL at 2.45GHz with 4 instances of Distributed Folding and they are really kicking out the work. :D

I just wanted to post this since I've been Intel free for so long. :D

 that's all. ;)

Jeff,
I'm about to join you! I orderd my Xeons yesterday and I am looking for a board now.

So far I'm very impressed with this Asus PC-DL. There's a HUGE thread over at 2cpu.com about this thing and there is just an absolute ton of information about it out on the 'net. There are mods coming out the butt for Vcore, Vdimm, Vdroop, etc.

I even ordered a second board today because I'm so happy with it. :D

2cpu.com is a great place to look into... well... 2 cpus. ;)

I wanted to pick up a pair of those chips and that board, but I just broke the bank on an fx53 and an x800. What have you gotten those 1.6's up to jeff?

Your broken bank seems worth it if you ask me. ;)

I haven't really played with them yet so the 2.45GHz is tops. I still have to do the Vdimm mod and then there's a trick to boot at 200MHz(with a BIOS limit of 233 and a ClockGen limit of 250). Someone said Tedinde is already at 3GHz but I haven't actually read that myself yet(but I don't doubt it in the least).

For those following the 2x1.6Xeon train... here's what I've done so far that isn't "stock"...

Vcore Wire Mod for 1.3v --> 1.6v:

And if you go with the heatsinks listed on the PC Surplus website (http://www.pcsurplusonline.com/ViewProd.cfm?ID=4997), you'll be needing a bench grinder for this:

I just got a pair of these Xeons in the mail today. :D Gonna pair them up with the PC-DL as well.

Jeff: So that wire mod is working OK for you? Reason I'm asking is that I've been reading some conflicting information on the vcore pin-mod for this board. I've heard you need to insulate C3 and then I've heard you can bridge C2 to C3.

Here (http://www.datamine.tk/overclocking/voidwarranty/ddrram_voltmod.htm) is the vdimm mod for this board.....the site also has the vcore, vdroop and I think the VDD mod there as well.

And here is the bsel mod to boot at 200 and choose up tp 233 fsb. I was just writing about this in another thread. http://www.ctechnet.com/hardware/Asus/PC-DL/xeon603_604_pin_mod.htm

Isn't it amazing how much information is out there for the PC-DL? I love it. ;)

Yes... C2-C3 is working fine for me. I actually posted over at 2cpu.com because the morning after I did the mod the website I was using changed to "insulate C3". Don't know for sure since I'm a noob with this stuff, but I think these 1.6GHz Xeons are something semi-special in that you don't need to insulate C3. (don't quote me on that, but from all the stuff I've read... I kind of get that impression)

I just bumped them up to 165x16=2640MHz and they are running 4 DF instances without breaking a swet. Hell... they are the same temperatures as when I was running 165x15=2450MHz.

I need to do the Vdimm mod now. ;)

Thanks for that ifno. Any idea if it's still on just air cooling and if it's stable enough to fold with?

That is a very nice number... 6GHz in one rig. :slobber:

Very nice, Jeff :D

What are the limits of the voltage settings in the BIOS for that board? I saw your pics and started dreaming about a watercooled pair of those bad boys.

Yeah, he said it was stable and with just $9 hsf.

No voltage options in the BIOS for anything. ;)

sweet. with some water maybe you can get 3.2+ out of these at the same vcore. Would be interesting to see what they can do with more vcore though :)

Didn't do the Vdimm mod yet but I can boot at 200MHz with 2.5-3-3-6 timings so I'm going to try her out tonight at 14x200=2800MHz. She's been running this way for ~15 minutes with 4 instances of DF so I'm hoping that's a good sign. ;)
