Great Review OPP! :)

One of the best investments I've made in a long time. I bought my 520 about 4 months ago and it's still running strong.

Bugger, everyone in my area sells Antec and Enermax boxed power supplies. That or those cheapo PSUs that are common in cheap cases. Bleh.

Anybody else recieve a bum power supply? I ordered one from Directron.com and this thing is a complete piece of shyte. I thought it may have just not liked my AMD setups so I ended up selling it to HardAss and he confirmed what I first thought... it's a pile of crap.

Now here's the kicker... he has four other TTGI supplies and he says this one is different from his others... Somehow I think I got :smileysex:ed without the KY. :(

I'm going to write Directron and see if they will take it back for a refund but I just wanted to see if anyone else had a problem with thiers.

hmm....its got a LOT of similarities to the vantec 520Watter. There a chance they are both made by the same 3rdparty?

Jeff,
I just ordered the TT-520SS non-EPS model for $78, Is this theone you got that sucked? What was wrong with it, specifically? And how was it different than the ones Opp and Hardass have?? I want to inspect mine when I get it.
Thanks

All 4 of the 520W TTGI I have, have a dull case, and all keep the +5 line at 5 or above. The one that came from Jeff has a polished case and the +5 line ran at 4.86.

But, cant you turn the trim pot up a touch like OPP did in his review??

They are so cheap, in cost that is, compared to an Antec 550 truepower. I paid 200.00 cad for mine and I have 2 of them.

What is the difference between the EPS and non EPS models?? What is EPS?

11-20-2002, 09:28 PM
Yup,
That's the same one I ordered! I hope they send me a good one  Otherwise I'll rma it faster than h*ll! Hey Opp,
any input on these? Opp tested the EPS model, which is hte same (so I've heard) except for 2 cables for server usage.

Actually the TT-520SS is not QUITE the same as the EPS TT-520SS
after all. On closer inspection of the specs, the +5v rating on EPS is 52A on the standard it's 50A. Not a significant number but it points out that the PSU's are indeed different!! Before I ordered I called and spoke to tech support at Directron and the guy said they were the same except for the 24pin cable and the 8 pin special cables. AND the EPS has the tube-tied design or a wire covering tube...the standard one does not!!!So, if mine can't keep it's end up...back it goes!!

Do your 4 "good" ones have the 24pin/8pin special server cables with the adapter thingy??? Or standard cables??

My money's on prommy. But Vapo forum says the extra cooling ability of the Prommy doesn't produce additional oc'ing ability.

Glad to see there is a nice hefty quality PSU that isn't so expensive. Seems like the good ones that fit that billing are...... and I will need a new one soon.

I'll be sticking to my Sparkle 350w power supplies($48 delivered via NewEgg.com). I have one running my 2500MHz XP2400+ and with a little adjustment it holds the 5v line to around 5.1v. ;)

Well TBO I only have the powermax 300 that came with my InWin case. I used to crackup when everyone would yell NEW PSU, YOU NEED AT LEAST 1,000,000 WATTS( I haven't had any problems ).........Not taking into account WHERE they were getting those ratings( umm lets see o yeah 999,950 w on 12v rail...... heheh). I've ordered the 8RDA+, going to order a 2600(333) any minute ( ;) ), and probably going to order the Corsair XMS3500 ( 2x256 ) I was considering the new Kingston HyperX, but it SEEMS that only newegg has it, and only has it only in 512 sticks (256- OOS!! would love to get that, but your talking $450 ) I want 2 identical ( as can be ) sticks to run dual channel on that board. So I will have to upgrade the psu also........ I noticed in that review that OPP said something about the new connector having 24 pins, because the manufacturers were going to start using that or something along those lines, if that is indeed the case with upcoming chipsets, it only makes sense to get something that has'm already...... maybe actually get away with future proofing....... never seems to work out though heheheh. Not to mention it has balls to spare.
I do believe I will be needing something though...... I really don't want to have some sweet gear and a crappy ass PS that can't run it.

Uplaoding pics now, all at half res to keep detail.

I found a pic of the quad fan beast. Ill get a pic of the specs on the side tomorrow.

bottom left corner of pic. (http://fugger.netfirms.com/comdex/ttgi.jpg) Sorry so blurry, was hard to get pics amoung the moving people as I got bumped when I took this pic, the other is also uploading less the angle on the PSU.

Im uploading several hundred megs of pictures atm, stuff I have sorted so far.

Forgot to add:
The guy claimed it would sell for $70~$80 bucks and available soon.

Fugger:

Was that power supply in a standard ATX 2.03 packaging or a proprietary size and shape like the PC Power and cooling 600W unit?

Charles Wirth

Standard ATX, I didnt get a chance to handle it that trip around as I was with cohorts paroozing for schwag.

I did try to buy it.

Must be a hefty 12 pounds or so. :D No luck with buying it I presume? :p

I will try again tomorrow (end of Comdex) as a lot of vendors will sell off rather than pack up.

I have lots o cash for on the spot deals.

I want to buy one of the Thermaltake cases (http://www.thermaltake.com/products/caseMenu.htm) from off the floor.

I received my TT-520SS (520W) today. It is the dull case finish and comes in a four color cardboard box. And the specs on the PSU case are slightly different from Directrons website. The website says the $78 TT-520SS has the specs of the TT-500SS...
My guess is that the EPS model with the special cables is really the TT-550SS (550W). Well, we'll see. I won't have my mobo til Monday and my CPU til mid week so I'll fire it up then.
BTW- hehe...if you open the case to adjust the pot, the PSU warranty is VOID!!
f&s:rolleyes:

That's a positive sign. My bum supply had an extremely polished surface... almost mirror like. Keep your fingers crossed. ;)

The case is larger than a "normal" case and it interferes with my cases top "blow hole". SH*T!!! I don't really want to mount the fan on the outside of the case...
OTOH, I can turn the triple fans up to HIGH:D :slobber:

xoxide has the ttgi520 for 86.00 shipped. I don't know which of the two is better to deal w/ (between xoxcide and directron)

here is the url http://www.xoxide.com/ttgi520watp4.html

you have to mention pricewatch to get it for 86.00 the its listed at 133.99 on their site

Aaron

Never mind closer inspection reveals it is the tt500ss, I ordered it anyway, what do you guys think of this drive?

I picked up a TTGI 520w not two days ago.

Reads 4.88 - 4.91 on MBM, but with my current mobo, that equates to 4.99 - 5.00 on VIA offerings (something odd with the XP333).

It runs cool, quiet, massive heatsink you can see inside, and runs clean. However there are a TON of molex connectors clogging my case.

Time for some touch-up soldering ;)

Charles Wirth

I made it back to that booth, the ones on the cases were 520W for sure and one the guy claimed was 720W was gone.

I did get a "Sample" Icute 550W Aluminum that I will be breaking in tonight. Ill take pics and post rails. Also I will open it up and look for pots. This is a model unavailable yet. I checked pricewatch and google.
