to all the current upgraders, are you going to go S754 now and hope for a CH, S939 .13 micron, or wait for 90nm and strained silicon to hit the chips?

im really really wanting to upgrade and get a CH but with 90nm and strained silicon chips will be very very good, but its also a risk because we never know if they will end up sucking or not

i HATE when I get stuck in the middle of an upgrade right as new technology is around the corner :stick:

anyways, what would you do?

EDIT: i also read that AMD has already started introducing strained silicon on their current chips, and that the strained silicon wont just be on the 90nm chips coming up... interesting

I'm going to wait. I just got a 2600-M and I"m ging to get a 6800, after that It just doesn'tmake sence to me to keep upgrading for a while. I'll get a kick ass system with pci-E and DDR2, but after my upgrades my computer should b fine for a ood ammount of time.

pci-e + SLI will be very very very very very tempting

Wait a while for 90nm and strained silicon to mature.

Probably gonna upgrade around X-mas or January.

Going to grab a DFI to put some new life in my S754 processor while I wait..

Well the only 90nm A64's in socket 754 you will see are going to be for mobiles (so best make sure your mobo is compatible) plus there is no guarantee they will make 1Mb L2 cache versions - quite possible they will all be 512Kb. Irrespective the 90nm will not be called Clawhammer or Newcastle they have different names such as Winchester and Oakville.

i can almost gurantee you the only 1mb chips form now on is FX series, which is why i want an fx 57 so bad :D

Yeah the only 1mb cache chips will be the different FX's :) Im glad I bought my 3400+ because a 754 CH is the closest thing to a 800$ FX :stick: Though FX57 will be one hell of a chip to own :ekk: 90nm, 1mb L2 cache, I wonder how it'll cost!

So we don't think the 3700+ will keep 1MB cache with 90nm? Or are we thinking it won't be made with 90nm process? Just curious.

As for the poll, going to try a current 3700+ just to get familiar with A64, and other then FX, is likely the only chip out right now that is a guaranteed upgrade for me. I'll switch to s939 once a strained silicon 90nm FX is available. That should give plenty of time to get some nice s939 boards out on the streets.

3700+ is no longer in production, or wont be for much longer, 1mb CH are being phased out by S939 NC

Wow! Didn't know they were getting discontinued. I knew it was just a matter of time, just not so soon.

Don't worry we'll have all sorts of fun with the Semprons in 754 :D
