Any r8500 OCers around? I've got a retail 8500 at stock speeds (275/275) and am going for 10K 3dmark. I'm running an xp1700 at 1710 (190x9) with 512MB pc2700 samsung CTL (aggressive timings 2.5 2-6-2-1) and winXP OS. I've tried two sets of drivers and neither can handle 200 fsb. I get up to the log in screen but can't make it into windows (get the ATIdll error). At 190 no problem, 200 no dice. 6193 beta drivers giving me a 9782 3dmark bench and the official 6166 catalysts giving up 9800 even. I've just a few questions if anyone can help...
1. Is/has anyone ran an r8500 with a 200+ fsb? if so, do you know which drivers you used/ are using?
2. Can anyone offer any other ideas without OCing the GPU itself (trying to get up as high as possible without doing that)?

I got my FSB to 202MHz with my Radeon 8500 and it ran 3Dm Mark2k1 at that speed. I could get the FSB higher but then it wouldnt run 3DMark.
Here is the URL u can check drivers there

but my question is on which drivers?? nm, I see now 6166. They wouldn't do it for me :(

I finally made it with a 310Mhz OC on my xp1700 (197x9) and the older 6118 ATI drivers. 10018 :D

Haven't tried 200 with these.... yet...

Are you using SP1 for Xp?? If not try using the catalyst 2.2 drivers with Rage3d tweak 3.5 and see how that works. I'll post my 3d2k1 scores shortly.

Try the 7006 Feb 2002 BIOS. It's 200+ faster than your retail one.

Is 7.006 also good for 64mb version? I'm now using 7.004, can you think about a performance increase?

am still using the stock BIOS but no ATI drivers are taking me to 200fsb land... 197 is as high as it'll go... I'm also still at stock 275/275 speed. But I run my rig at 190x9 so I'm not sure how much higher I wanna take (or better yet, can take) my GPU clock speed. I've got no cooling on the card just standard stock 64MB r8500...

any convenient link on finding that faster BIOS you mentioned?? along with some literature on it?

so I flashed to the 7006 BIOS but had very poor results so I flashed back  Seriously, at 195 fsb, the artifacts in 3dmark were unacceptable. Clocked down to 190 and still had artifacts. At 190 I did get a 130 point increase but hardly worth it if it has artifacts. 197 gave me BIOS errors and wouldn't boot into windows at all. Evidently at stock 275/275 speed and lower fsb the 7006 BIOS is really worth it. But up here in high fsb land, it just didn't work out.... Here's a good read on the subject too http://www.rage3d.com/articles/8500bios/ And if anyone is still persistent on giving them a go, get it here http://lradunovic.tripod.com/radeon8500/id6.html

I forgot to tell you that the 7006 Feb BIOS needs a lot more voltages than usual..............It's funny that I and one of my friends are the only ones who have successes with this BIOS so far ..........hmmm...and we both have Radeon 8500 64MB Engineering Samples.

About overclockability of that BIOS...........here's my R8500 score, see for yourself: http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4544671 <- 12903
