Right now im running my mobile at 2880....what is the best 64+mobo combo for ocing right now? i would prefer it to be the new socket so it will last....is it even worth upgrading right now?

EDIT: I would be keeping all i could...meaning videocard/ram/hd/opticals... ram can do 240 fsb at like 3.1v...(3.2 and 3.3v dont seem to help me reach anything higher..) at 2-2-2-5 timings...usuable on a 64 system?

All depends on the mobo ya choose. I've had terrible luck so far OCing A64, but that's mostly because I got the ABIT KV8 Pro, then flashed my Gigabyte K8NS Pro with a bogus BIOS. If the consumer release of the new DFI works as good as it looks, then we all might have better luck. Right now, I'm back to runnin' my mobile 2600+, @ 2600 MHz. rock solid in the hot part of summer, on good air. Really, you'd need a great OC on A64 to make it a LOT better. At least until there are apps & games & such written for A64. Just my 2 cents, not worth that much. ;) :D BTW, if you're into gaming at all, it seems a new vid card would be a much smarter upgrade.

you're a damn lucky boy.

my 2400M can only hit 2550mhz at 2.0V on good water.

my same 512x2 khx3000 bh-5 does 225 2-2-2-5 3.1V cpc OFF on a DFI infinity. 3.2 and 3.3 doens't help either for vmem.

you got better yeilds on both mem and your cpu, damn you :)

heh...yeah i dont know what graphics card i wanna get..either the XTPE or the 6800U......but they are both horridly overpriced right now...what do you guys recommend outa thos 2?

EDIT: Also, isnt that 64 DFI mobo the old socket? why would you get that when there is the 939 out...

DFI is supposed to release socket 754 AND 939. One reason to buy the 754, is to avoid buyin a more expensive chip. ;) I don't see why vid cards are so spendy anymore. Sure they're faster & all, but there's no GOOD reason for prices to go up THAT much.

Might be the old socket, but its still a Heavy Hitter, OPPAINTER currently holds the #1 3DM 01 spot with the DFI S754 and a 3700+

Old socket? lol

Like Karnivore said, 754 is a heavy hitter, not even the best of the best P4's can out perform some of the lower chips. (3000+ placed between 3.2EE and 3.4EE in andatechs Doom III cpu shootout)

Thats because you chose to go cheap with your 2400-M. All 2600-M processors can do 2.6-2.7ghz on air. I bought mine from excaliberpc.com because they offer hand picked 2600-M models with best steppings so if you want to go higher then what you have now i suggest you purchase it while they last. Goodluck.

what you say?

a stock A64 3200 1MB chip is about as fast as your 2.6ghz barton in 3DMark01...

Haha...OPPAINTER is a miracle worker...lol...i dont wanna be stuck with an "outdated" socket you know...cause eventually the S754 will end....but before S939...so id rather buy something now that will last...but i think im gonna go with a new graphics card anyways

Miracle worker, YES, "outdated", in this world of socket A, and Socket 478, your calling the Socket 754 outdated  AMD will probably be milking the S754 for quite some time to come. I won't bother with S939 until we see some decent boards, might be soon, maybe not, Either way I've not missed the socket A for quite a while now, I however have been enjoying the nice performance boost! Guess if your one who only upgrades every year or two thats cool, but I just cannot, gets way to boring ;)

Good question. I don't recall seeing any discussions about their folding speeds. Might be interesting to post about at Stanford's site. :) I wonder if they plan on any kind of client upgrades that work better with A64?
