someone mentioned it was a power issue before I believe. is this true?

i ask because I wouldn't want any issues #1

and i've always wondered if this PSU can handle my rig. check the sig

i can monitor the voltages though, and they are all above 12, 3, and 5 as they should be. but its HOT.

what else could be causing this issue?

thank you.

My northbridge gets hot with the crappy asus stock cooling. Get a decent cooler on it. As you have watercooling, maybe a waterclock.

yeah, I threw a pelt on my NB and barly gained 5MHz. Just don't let it get hot, don't really worry about getting it cold.

Buy one of those thermalright NB1Cs if you are that worried about the heat.

hot nb means its getting stressed a lot, means a lot of data is going through it, doesnt have to ddo anything at all with your psu.

Hot = more cooling required. Pretty simple.

hmmm.........anyway to alleviate that stress?

i picked up the swiftech mcp-159-p cooler for my northbridge..........see how that goes.

PSU is an enermax 420W

lower your fsb and memory speed...
it like buying a ferrari and trying to find a way to reduce the gasoline consumption :P

if you want a cool system go via epia/eden

228FSB currently 3.33GHZ

3-3-3-6 @228 pc3500 currently

this didn't seem like a substantial overclock to where I'd be having heat issues, especially being watercooled.

in fact, i thought the OC sucked.

it does suck, my 3D scores actually dropped after OC the chip and the GPU

the pi time went down 5 seconds though.

the only heat issue you have atm is that you worry about it :D the nb temps on 875 boards dont mean anything, some people even ran their board without any heatsink at all on the nb and could still run at the same oced speed...

Hot northbridge will limit FSB and/or Memory speed. But if you have it under 50C, all should be fine....

I can see very little difference between stock and 300MHz FSB 5:4 2-2-2-5 or 290MHz 1:1 3-4-4-8.. the NB is ~same temps, it does not get hot; the memories feel more warm to me :)

I hope there's a good heat transfer, but since I dont have any issues I did not remove the heatsink yet for a good 'ol lapping ..
