The way I install my games, is that I like to put it on a seperate partition from lets say my c:\ drive. If my os becomes inaccesible, I would still be able to access all the files on my install drive once I reinstall my os. This is no problem with a game such as Call of Duty. But with FarCry and others, I must reinstall, which is a pain in the butt with 5 or 6 disk games. Is there any way to prevent this? Is it looking for files that were in the registry and must be replaced? What is the recommended way, if their is such.

Couple of things I could think of, some software, games, etc, install dependent files, others simply make registry entries. You might be able to back up registry, and probably the system32 folder. You could also Ghost your OS partition with everything installed... Not sure what else you could do, perhaps someone else will have a method, or ideas..
