Well its a beta board and both my cpu's are C0 and not that good clockers so i got messing with HTT dividers and bus speed.
Thought you way like to see what I achieved straight out the box no mods etc. I was memtesting at ddr633 3-2-2-0 with 3500EB but windows was an utter no go...this is pretty stable though and should be easy for you guys to hit.

So here it is 3-2-2-0...yes TRAS at 0..LOL.

The bios has 3.1Vdimm max and thats what is set.The board features full and half multi's also and fsb adj well over 400.

I have a feeling the DFI will be the board to have if you want 754.

Its the 250GB NF3 Lanparty. As far as i know there are 4 or so beta boards out with a few well known overclockers for evaluation and testing, i do Know OPP has one but m unsure who else.

My board does have a few bugs which im hoping bios will sort out..none of these bugs are to do with overclocking though ;) :D

Max vdimm is 3.1V although it overvolts a little.
Max Vchipset is 1.9V

I gained nothing from 750MHz and 1GHz HTT, not a single point in 3dmark so I dont see the deal here

"I can feel my OCZ EB and Adata VItesta PC4000 gettin twitchy"

:D 3.14v or however much it overvolts gonna be enough? That ras latency of zero is killer, does it make a difference if its set to 5, 7, 10, 15 or whatever? and how is it possible to set it to zero? wow is there options to set the timing to like 0-0-0-0! latency free ram! :D  even a ras-cas delay of 1 would really own!

Those are some nice options! how high does the agp volts go to? is it true half multis dont work right and degrade performance? How much of a danger is 3.1x volts vdimm to the ondie controller? I was told keep it below 3 volts. Is this mobo faster than other nf3 250s MHz per MHz? like you get 250x10=2.5GHz on both with equal ram timings? Whats the expected price for such a fine mobo? $120? $150?

you could set 1-1-1-0 if you wanted, of course this is a beta bios so these optioms may vanish from shipping versions.

Must have this board. My OCZ 4200's are good to 305 1:1 with 3.0 to 3.1 volts. No Vmem mods to be found for my board yet!!!

I havent tried the OCZ ddr booster on my Sig MSI board. yet. It works fine in my IC7, NF7, and im testing it on a IS7-e that i've had for a long time,

It's working fine in the IS7 even though it's not on OCZ's list. I get better mem numbers with it than my IC7, this was my original IS7 and Pat/gat works great on it. The newer IS7 they seem to have disabled it somehow!!!

I can't comment on bugs as that wouldn't be fair...there are some minor issues that bios should sort out.

I think its great that the BIOS writers started making ALL the options available to the users. They'll probably have to limit the ranges to those officially supported (and documented) by AMD though.

Does the BIOS has all the CAS Latency values avaiable? If so could you do me a small favour and dump the DRAM controller registers using WPCREDIT (bus 0, device 24, function 2) with CAS Lat set to 1.5 clocks. I have two possible decoding schemes for the reserved CAS values ... just need to double check.

I am also curious about the drive strength setting. AMD docs show only two possible values:
0 - Normal (default)
1 - weak (beware) <--- exact words out the AMD doco :)

Ive tried "weak" and it was very very bad, so I left it out of A64 Tweaker. Maybe there are some more controls in the reserved fields ;)

Tony
07-29-2004, 04:38 AM
Cas 1.5
2
2.5
3
all work it seems

all others crash the system.

I will try and have a look at the registers for you.

Due to the fact that they have upped the max vcore to 2.1v, where the most seen before on other boards is 1.7-1.85v, I think they paid special attention to the NF2s vcore problem, and fixed it on this board accordingly ;)

Guys...If it the record then its my first one :)

It was at 2.5LDT so HT speed was 1063 or so which is right on the limit for the board with no mods...with VHT this board would probably max out VERY easy at the 450+ limit is has now.

DFI are full aware of this thread so no real need for me to mail em the shots as they already have em ;).

Also remember this is on a stock board with no mods, air-cooled with the OCZ DDR Booster supplying the vdimm above 3.1V.

I had word yesterday they are changing the pcb color and changing the layout slightly, as long as they leave the top half of the board untouched as to not effect the overclocking I will be very happy.

Not to sure about price and features, it didn't come with a manual.

I can tell you it has 4 SATA ports, 2x IDE ports (I think can be used as Raid, not sure), Firewire, six of those Sound plug thingys:D and the basics, LAN, USB 2 all that.

Who do you think wwas releasing the beta bios files in the first place?...DFI

I see a lot of bios files with swapped romsip tables from one beta to the next, the romsips were all written by DFI in the first place though.

Im sure we will see good bios support on this board as it is clearly designed for overclocking.

so when is OCZ going to release some "PC6400 EL" to go with this board?! :D

07-31-2004, 11:44 PM
great :)
i need a hint....
i've got a lucky cpu (A64 3200+ @ 2450Mhz with only 1.375v RS, liquid cooled...).
I'm waiting for the A64 kit for my prometeia mach 2 and in this way i would buy the best motherboard on the market (for A64 socket 754).
Today my mb is Epox 8HDA3+ (i also had Aopen AK86-L and Aopen AK89 Max) but i can't rich good results with it.
So i need a new motherboard. I read all the posts and i'm very interested in DFI's product.
I found Chaintec NF3 250 (255Mhz with 4X and 325Mhz with 3X) but i don't know what to do...
any hint? :)

P.S. sorry for my English.....

bldegle2

your english is fine, in fact, better than some where English is the mother tongue.

just be patient, DFI is rolling out their new motheboard sometime in the next two to three weeks. With an OCZ ram clocker module and the features already on the board, it is ready to go out of the box voltage wise.

of course, the crazies will tweak it even more.

lets hope the reference boards features and clockabilites remain the same for the retail product.

i will be setting one up on my prommie soon too, just waiting for that motherboard to be issued.

08-01-2004, 12:24 PM
I would think price wise you will be looking at about the same as the NF2 lanparty, maybe a touch more.

I heard mid to late Aug for release although it could come sooner.

Regards ram that can do ddr600+ with low latency...we are pushing to make DDR500 and DDR533 a reality and with JEDEC now passing(or just about to) ddr500 at 3-4-4-8 we are part the way there. As more manufacturers move to DDR500 IC's we will find ways to tweak the latency down and increase the speed.

Remember OCZ were the first to offer mainstream modules that were all tested to ddr500 speeds with the 3700Gold rev1 which was released over a year ago now, our new 4000gold rev2 is capable of hitting ddr533 with 2.5-3-3 latency at 2.7Vdimm or lower so I can't see it being long till we see mainstream modules doing 2.5-2-2 or close to this at those speeds.

Wouldn't you think Intel would see this and tweak the 915 chipset to take advantage of these super fast dimms instead of intentionally crippling it.

All the modules (OCZ PC4000 Gold rev 2.0) could reach these results? (533Mhz with 2.5-3-3 ad 2.7v)

Hm, it looks like this thread moves away from its original topic... however, 2 questions, bigtoe:

1) do you have any information, is the PC4000DDR rev2.0 already available in retail channels in Europe?

2) are these modules also using some Hynix IC's... and what about them responding to higher voltage? ;)

I tested the BH5 upto 3.5vdimm...no joy, it just may be crap ram

I tested Hynix D43 and CTD-5 and it did ok...not as good as the EB though.

I have been waiting to dump my EPoX 8KDA3+ anytime. This is a perfect reason!!!

Any words on the releasing date?
How much would it cost? I hope it won't go higher than $150.

Not crazy about how close the CPU socket is to the AGP slot. Makes it hard for big coolers to get along.

Will the 4 DIMM slots be able to handle 4x 512M BH5 running in dual channel?

On PCBoard colors... WTF... all PCboards are light light green, they are layers of FIBERGLASS with copper on it. The COLOR is simply the die used in the solderpaste mask that keeps the raw solder paste from shorting between pins before being melted.

The COLOR means absolutely NOTHING. Thats like RED cars being faster than BLUE cars. Get a grip.

Does it (the S754 one) have Coaxial or Optical out? I have a JVC home theatre system and Coaxial/Optical out is a must have for any board that I get. :)

If needed I will talk with Oskar to make sure this board supports mobiles.

I know they are working on the 939LP now so they may be a short wait to make sure mobiles are supported.

hi everybody, i've been reading on these forums for a while now, and decided to join :D

I wanna get an s754 rig, ist about time to change my 1800+
And i think i'm gonna wait for the DFI bord.

I had a few questions, and mailed DFI, here's what they replied, maybe its usefull to some people:

Dear Sir,

Answers to your questions accordingly.

Yes our Socket 754 with NF3 chipset will be available in Belgium around end Sept. The retail price is currently unknow.
The Socket 754 will be available first. and Socket 939 will be later on in Oct/Nov.
It will be in "Lanparty UT" version, which it will Not include FrontX, but will have UV sensitive slots and UV Round cables.
Vdimm range will be defined by BIOS later on.

Best Regards,

DFI Technical Support Dept.

KaoTiKrys, forgot to ask about the the optical out, sorry, mailed it before i read your posts, but if you mail them, they'll probably tell you.

I sure hope it is sooner. I have been researching my new computer since the winter and I am ready to buy!

First, I was waiting for 939, but that turned out to be a expensive disappointment. Then NF3 was going to do good things. I was all set to get a Neo Plat till I started hanging out at the MSI forums. Then the K8N-E was a bust as well. All I have to say is that if I wait till September, the DFI had better deliver. :D

BTW, the FrontX is a drive bay insert to give you access to USB, Firewire, MIC, Speakers - anything that has an on-board header. Probably unnecessary with most cases today.

If it works with mobiles, 2x512bh5 and the Infinity (I have zero interest in the Lanparty versions) comes in under $125. As well as being released by the beginning of sept, I'll be very interested. (I'm so sick of fighting with the Gigabyte board and a gig of bh5.)

Onboard sound with support for EAX2 would be nice too.

Vdimm is 3.1?

Isn't nForce4 planned towards the end of 2004 in December/January 2005? If yes, it seems that just like with nForce2, DFI has waited for the nForce3 technology to mature to the fullest extent and come close to the start of another generation of the chipset before unleashing another potential fsb monster.

I used this e-mail adress :
sales@dfi-europe.nl

So its only for Europe, but i guess it'll be in canada and the US, about 2 to 3 weeks earlier. since Amerika always comes first, with everything :(
But on the other hand, i think less people here are in to oc'ing, so according to my local pc shop, I can have the OCZ 3700EB in less then a week, without any problems, wich is good i think.

The 4000+ modules I have all did well but didn't shine as well as the EB.I would say for an easy overclock the 3700rev3 will be an awsome buy, for those looking for wonderclocks you need EB and a few volts ;)

I hope you're not being restricted by the NDA (if any) and are allowed to answer this ;-)

Four SATA? Huh? I've only seen manufacturers get two ports from the nVidia nForce3. What chip does the SATA? Is it the southbridge of the nForce, a Promise chip, or is it a SiliconImage 3112/3114? Or maybe a mix of both?

The sound. Is that stock nForce sound, using the Realtek "bridge" chip (in fact, AFAIK, the chip itself does very little)? If so, we're in luck. nVidia's onboard sound chip (in combination with the Realtek) just happens to be 100% compatible with intel-8x0 sound ;-)

What's the deal with living in Manchester and California? Heh, if you ever make a stop in Antwerp, I'll put Gentoo Linux (www.gentoo.org) on it and show you what that baby can really do :D

Also, would you be a really, really, really nice person and ask DFI if you can make more pictures of this thing? I'll even host the webspace. Any ideas if the great BIOS is being kept? I hope so. I don't want to be stuck with an old buggy BIOS but want to keep it anyway because of the great OC'ing options.

EDIT: And it runs with the OCZ booster? Great!

Just one more question though. I assume it can set the mutliplier, but does this override the multiplier on multi-locked processors such as the Athlon64?

Tony
08-10-2004, 10:54 PM
Well I was in Belgium a few weeks ago at the OCC Lanparty so you could have seen me there.

I can't take pics of the board as its Beta and they requested I didn't.

If they remove options from bios I will leak this beta to the net...DFI know this but obviously will not support boards flashed with this bios.I really do feel though I won't have to do this..I told them what they need to do and I have a feeling they really listened..;)

Regards Manchester and Cali, im here for 10weeks in Cali then I go back to manchester UK..I just wanted to let people know where I was as I get heaps of PM's and there will be a delay as im in different time zones to normal.

The other questions I will check on the board later for you...

racoontje
08-10-2004, 11:54 PM

Well, if you're ever in Belgium again and need a place to stay (I'm talking to the DFI board here ;-)) I'm right here!

No DDR600 at all. At 333MHz*6=2000MHz, possible RAM clocks are 333MHz (CPU/6) or 286MHz (CPU/7). So-called "5/6-divider" would give you 250MHz (CPU/8).

But a very nice board, indeed!

Hmm didnt he say the 10/9 divider that would make it
(333/10)*9=299.7mhz htt aka ddr600

Just my 5 cents

Yes he did, but that´s not the way to calculate memory-clocks for an A64.

Memory-clocks are the result of the core-clock and an integer divider.

Running 333x6 means CPU/6 for 1:1...and guess what the next divider will be, when there are only integer ones?

Greetz, Flox

Tony
08-11-2004, 12:27 PM
Going by the next usefull divider that theory is correct.Only issue is going by bandwidth results i was doing a lot better than 1:1 at 285 or so...

Unbuffered at 285 1:1 was 2450 or so...Unbuffered at 333 9/10 was 2600+ Unbuffered which is more like ddr600 than ddr570.

draw your own conclusions.

Flox
08-11-2004, 11:08 PM
My conclusion is, that this is a very good board paired with very good memory. ;)

But when I have a look at AMDs datasheets (table for available memoryclocks), my next conclusion is, that it´s technically impossible to have other dividers than the integer ones, because AMD didn´t want to have asynchronous memory-clocks, accepting the drawback of slightly lower memory-clocks sometimes.

So as well as the so called "5/6"-divider is not always a real 5/6-divider (e.g. FX-53 is running at 160MHz memory-speed when set to DDR333 or "5/6"), the "9/10"-divider on the DFI-board is just the name for an integer divider between the one for DDR400 and the one for DDR333. Could be a real 9/10 (e.g. CH3400+), but not always.

Why your "9/10" results @333 are better than the 1:1-results at 285MHz is a good question...did you run it at 285x7 to get same core clocks?
