Hi,

As Isopropyl Alcohol is fully available here at work I was considering to give it a go tonight. I just need to lower the freezing point of water a bit (-5c maybe). With water at 0c my CPU is 5c and the Goal is CPU at 0c so what percentage of Isopropyl Alcohol do you guys recommend? I was planning to start with a 80:20 ratio between water/Isopropyl Alcohol what do you think?

Is there any risks of the alcohol "attacking" any of my components, like silicone hose, Pump(submerged), etc.. also how fast do you think the Alcohol will evaporate? I have a really air-tight system as you can see in THIS THREAD (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39523)

PS: I just noticed that I also have ETHANOL (Ethyl Alcohol) here, wich one of them would be better?

Regards,

KODE.

the freezing point of pure ethanol is (-114C), pure Isopropyl is (-88C)... i use S-L-X denatured alcohol in mine and works good for the chiller that chilly1 built for me, unloded -34C with no sludge problems. btw denatured alcohol is ethanol made unfit for human consumption by the adding of various materials that are poisinous to humans

when I ran 0c I used about half a bottle of iso alchy to a 3 gallon rez half a 16oz bottle to the rest distilled water. This kept my setup from freezing.

Thanks for the reply fellas :toast:

Where can I get Denatured Alcohol? The Bottle I have here says nothing about it's characteristics, just the Isopropyl one.

Any of you had problems with alcohol attacking or reacting with any of your stuff?

Don't mix it with waterwetter. Other then that i had no trouble using it in a standard water cooled setup for many months.

Thanks saratoga, my major concern was the parts melting or corroding somehow with time.

you can get it in the paint section of your local hardware store, its a solvent

That´s good news S_I_N :toast:

I just added 0,6 liters of ethanol to my loop (total of 2.3 liters). Lower water temperature with pure Dionized Water was 1c and now with Ethanol it went to -4.5c (CPU 1c) is this a good Delta T?
