Current setup:

A64 754 3200+
Gigabyte K8NNXP
Waterchill re. 2
POV 6800 GT
Corsair 3500 rev. 1.1

The problem is my 3DMark 01 and 03 score, 01 = 20500 and 03 8500.

No matter what MHz I boot at (both cpu and gfx) nothing changes, I have tried several Bioses and gfx drivers and nothing works. I got the latest chipste driver from Gigabyte and set gfx to performance. On my old 2600+ @ 2434 MHz the 03 score was 12000, anyone with af solution??

try the chipset drivers from nvidia, not gigabyte - linky (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_4.27) hope this helps.

which PSU you use now ?

the 6800 GT requires one dedicated line from the PSU 350watt minimum. no sharing lines with hard drives or fans. if you have a lot of optical drivers , cathodes, RAM, you will need a bigger PSU.

I have a Chieftech 360 watts PSU, is that enough??

Right now I have one hdd, the gfx and my watercooling (7 V.). I had af friend of mine do the 3.3 vdimm mod, and the cpu gets 1.7 V - the rest i standart settings, the system is still not able to complete any 3DMark test.

When I start the program (3DMark) and when it loads a test, it is almost as if the system hangs and I have an almost black screen, until suddenly my hdd goes nuts and the screen shows in full brightness (like it is supposed to) the test is being loaded and the sequence starts - does that make sense??

Maybe you should try a fresh windows install.

I almost get almost the same score '01 with a 2 year old GF4ti4200. :D

I get almost the same score with an AXP and a 9800XT.

It is a fresh window installation... My old 2600 XP @ 2434 with 9800 pro, scored 500 points less than this setup, with 6800GT, I'm about to axe something...

nVidia recommends 400w PSU for any card in the 6800 range from what I've heard.

I'll get something between 400 and 550 tomorrow, if it doesn't help I'll know that's not the problem;)

This goes for both 01 and 03.

I reinstalled chipset and gfx drivers, and now i can complete borh 01 and 03.

I have the cpu running at 2300 MHz and the gfx at 420/1100

01 = 20500

03 = 11500

Is this score high enough?

looks good, but u should try to get your cpu higher

The cpu has run above 2700 MHz on mach1 with r404, but i cant get it stable past 2440 with water, hopes the new psu can help me a little...

I only managed this score once: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7986689

Doesn't that sound more correct?

Sounds more like it, but if you can't run within 1000 points of that every single time you have a bugged score.

if it were the psu, thats like saying nvidia cards have implemented a way, instead of shutting down, to perform slower (to not require as many watt's/volts), which i dont think they have. anyways good luck, i think the 6800GT sucks in 3d01 anyways. but the 03 score would wow me enough :D

EDIT: just looked at ur 03 score... ok somethings wrong

that 01 score seems quit low to me, but maybe it isnt i havent been on much lately, dont know quite what the GTs are capable of. (on a side note) anyone know when nvidia's SLI tech is coming out?

well its got the 16 pipes and 256-bit mem, so i suppose we all thought it wouldnt be much below the 6800u in performance, but... it is.

afaik they do have that. heard of a 6800 scoring only 8500 if u plug only one power connector in the card.
if u plug the second one in it would rise to 10k

I found out that the machine was being held back by the system idle process so I made a clean install again, this time with a danish version of XP - Now I can't do anything with the intire machine, system idle process is now eating between 80 and 100% cpu power, not just virtually it really puts 100% load on the cpu, also it took about two hours to install windows, usually it takes about 20 min. Maybe it's some bios adjustment i made wrong?

fresh install dude - bios is fully optimized ;)

otherwise wait until this weekend or next week.. I´ll install and tweak windows for ya :)

I finally managed to get the machine running again, now were back to the beginning, the score is too lov. Anyone care to look at this comparelink and share their thoughts?

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8005093

The funny thing is, it doesn't matter if i run the test at 350/1000 or 425/1130 I still get the same result?

a little compare:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7990981
about same rig.. and clocks

stock gfx and you should hit about 24k

Have you tested DX 9.0c and the new nvidia drivers (61.77?)

autzen
07-31-2004, 10:07 PM
I'm currently using DX9.0c, and I have tried a bunch of drivers, not much difference - but #6 what do you mean by testing??

I'm not ocing 2D, but it is strange that the driver forgets any new MHz i put on the gfx as soon as i push the ok button after ocing... even if i make it "use these settings at startup" it doesn't do it??
