Hey all,

Well this is my first post on Xtreme so be nice :)

Anyway on to my problem. I am trying to get the best 3Dmark score possible, so ofc ourse my PC is overclocked. About 1/2 through 3D mark 2002 SE build 330, the program crashes. but windows ect still runs fine. Basically i am wondering what compent I have set too high. Here is what i am running.

Windows XP Pro

2000+ @ 1813MHz (12.5 x 145MHz) 1.85v
Epox 8K3A+
256MB XtremeDDR PC 3200 RAM (i have test the RAM to 212MHz) 2.7v
Gainward Ultra golden sample/XP Ti4200 @ 290/370
WD 120GB SE HDD
Volcano 7+ HSF on high speed

Umm i think that is about it. so yeah, which part is to high. cos i thought if it were the CPU the whole system would reset. Same with the ram. But i have run the v/card at faster speeds. Any ideas?

Greetings and welcome to Xtreme :)

As for your overclock, a good way to test the stability would be to run some sort of burn-in program (Toast works wonders). That should tell you if it's your CPU or not.

I doubt the ram would be causing the issue at that speed.

Relating to the video card, isn't stock clock on Ti4200's either 250/500 or 250/444 depending on 64/128mb style? That clock seems extremely low.

As always, make sure you have good thermal grease between the CPU and heatsink.

Good luck with 3dmark :D

P.S. I probably would unlock that chip (if it isn't already), and run a different configuration (10x181?)

Hey,

yeah toast stable for 45 mins, then need the PC for real work and shut it down.

its the 128meg of the v/card that default clock is 250/444, i have it upto 290/590 typo in the first post sorry.

I am thinking that the v/card and cpu don't like being o/c'ed at the same time cos i can run 3D mark at 300/600 with the cpu at stock

CPU temps are OK i think - 51 (full load) according the Epox USDM program.

Oh in case your interested i get 11,623 as my score with the CPU at default. I want to crack the 12k mark.

As for getting the CPU unlocked, i don't trust myself to do it.

Try toast stable for 24 hours :D

Maybe run toast + loop 3dmark at the same time?

I dunno...there are ways to increase your 3dmark scores @ stock though. Take a reading or search for Rivatuner and some of the settings inside. Easy way to pick up points :)

you need more voltage for your cpu, trust me.

 I am not a fan of voltage. i have killed 2 2000+ from overheating. I think i will try 1.9v but that is it. i hope.

I think I would have to agree there. I would think that if you upped the voltage a lil there it might help out on that.
As stated, give toast or some other stress test proggie a good time run and see how it goes.
I can highly understand your not to keen on uppin the voltage, I rarely have or even needed to personally.
But all you need to do is just make sure your temps stay decent when you up the voltage and you should be ok.
And Welcome to the Xtreme!

Well the extra voltage did it. temps were getting pretty high tho, 62.

Well i managed to get 12,012 so i am pretty happy with that. And thats on a system that hasn't been formated for about 2 months.

I can't wait until my AT7-Max2 arrives.

:)

what kind of cooling are you using? your cpu runs pretty hot, so i wouldn't recommend stressing your chip by sandra multimedia burn-in, cpu burn-in or any other cpu torture proggie.

I have 2 case fans, and the side of my case off.

Using a volcano 7+ on high speed with AS3.

abient around 24ish

Well yeah the 62 was after 20mins of toast. I have seen the chip at 67 when i was using the stock AMD cooler, and that was at default voltage.

Dexter,

Welcome to Xtreme :)

I have your same board and an XP 1600+ and I used to use an AX-7 & Vantec Tornado and I had run that setup @ 2.2vcore and load temps nearing 70c...so I would have to think you would be safe under 70c on that board as it reads temp from the CPU's internal diode. I've yet to fry a CPU *knocks on wood*.....in my experience they've always just crashed/locked when they've gotten too hot ;)

If you can stay under 70c and pass prime at that OC, then you should be fine I'd think :D

anyway it's strange. i mean my cpu runs at 11x175 @ 2V and temps never go over 38C (add 10/12C if you compare it to diode reading) i'm using latest GlobalWin, or CoolerMaster HCC-001+Delta 80mm+AS3 with case open. ambient temps between 20-24C. i would suggest cleaning your hsf and re-applying as3 if you did do that already.

I still have that pink krap around the edges of the CPU from the stock cooler, how big a dif that make to the temps?

QuadDamage,

Is your motherboard reading from the XP's internal diode? If not, your CPU temps will be much lower as they're read from a thermistor located in the CPU socket. Temps get much hotter inside that CPU than behind it ;)
