Well some questions on the Chip-con Prometeia from xtwerks (ETA Oct. 21)

1. How much does the ambient temperature effect it's effectiveness? One of the reasons I am getting it is because my work space is quite warm and I don't want to deal with noisy case fans to cool it down.

2. How much maintenance is needed? Do I need to check up on it everyday and see if everything is ok or is it reliable?

3. This is directed towards OPP or any other SoCal resident who has ordered one from xtwerks. With the enlight case included, how much is shipping?

4. If I run it 24/7 (which is recommended correct?) how much monthly will it add to the power bill?

5. Just a little question, how many case fan mounts are there in the stock Enlight case?

Thanks

I preordered mine thru these guys as I am waiting anxiously.

I know that shipping is $20 locally w/o the enlight case, but I'm planning to will-call it. :D

1- Not sure, but my guess is after condensation checking is completed you'll only have to make sure the fins on the cooling coils stay clear of dust and debris.

2- No

3- I'm in MA, so no idea there :p

4- It uses about 160 watts all the time, so you can do the calculations better than I can with your power costs.

5- Looks like two 80mm fans, one intake and one exhaust, plus the power supply ventilation:

is there any bargaining of the price of a prometeia with the US online retailers?

Probably not, if you order now, you may get yours before Christmas. :/

I doubt any reseller would lower their price...they are selling pretty fast.

1. My experience with my Prom is that it does heat up. In a 20'C room the compressor will go as high as +70'C under load, which of course impacts performance due to the higher pressure in the system. If you have it hot - chances are that the compressor will over heat.

2. Condense is a major issue read this thread (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4354&pagenumber=3) and this (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3310) Also JC already ruined two Proms.

4. It actually consumes a lot of power. If you go fpr a reliable 24/7 setup and you don't go for the last few MHz a VapoChill would do better for you - they are cheaper as well.
