i have opened another tread about this question......
i have recently buyed an a7v880 that imho have many possibilities in oc but in the bios it's possible to set max 227fsb.... it's possible to mod the bios to have fsb>227??????? i have read in an xbits labs recension this: "this problem can be completely eliminated after the new BIOS versions come out. The clock frequency generator used on this mainboard, ICS94228, is truly capable of generating much higher FSB frequencies than the notorious 227MHz."

the latest bios is the 1004 release downloadable at this link (http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/selectftp.aspx?l1_id=1&l2_id=10&l3_id=27&m_id=1&f_name=A7v88004.zip~zaqwedc) but the fsb max is only 227....

it's possible to mod the bios to have many features and other????? only a control :D ;)

i want to sent this mail to inform that the new 1005.002 release bios have many problems... after his flashing motherboard became instable and often pc freezes and when pc is resetted monitor remain black... after the shutting down of pc it reboot again but in the bios pc freeze. even if i turn down the current for a lot of time pc return to work a little but after 20-30 minutes pc freeze aganin... i have resolved all this problem whit the re-flashing of 1005.001 beta bios.

in day 9/4/2004 this bios was removed and reinsered from download for a lot of time....

setfsb works better than BIOS overclocking. ASUS's bioses are crap, so far, so they cause more instability than they're worth. Stick with setfsb for this board. I'm going to get a KW7, when it's out. Hopefully better gains from it.

i think that s3 problems are os problems......... if you have windows xp set S1 Only and "acpi 2.0 support" yes.......

the problem is not only voltage (2 volt on cpu are good for barton or thoro and this mobo doesn't support palomino, 2,85 on ram are low), is the 227 max fsb the true limit

Valerio have you taken a look at the mobo? It's so cut up ,missing mosfets and maybe more, that even if you got a modded bios it wouldn't do much good.

under windows is possible to clock over 227 and, in fact, my max fsb is 260... if i find a modded bios i can set fsb max 227 for daily use (i can use this mobo in daily use at 235, over my ram have many problems to work) but if in bios fsb is max 227 to use for example the pc in daily use at 230 fsb i can't because at every boot i must set fsb with a software and it's a little nuisance, i think.

ps: pardon me for my pessim english

What program did you use for win fsb setting? CpuFsb?What was your max stable fsb?I mean with no option to go over the default voltage for the chipset ...

valerio993

the chipset voltage is static (there aren't any selection about)... to clock fsb by windows i use setfsb for kt600+vt8237... my max fsb is 260, stable at 250 (super pi e sandra closed), rock solid at 235 (all the bench closed, 3dmark,aquamark and so on) but my problem are the ram that over 170 mhz have many problems to work well. i think that with good ram i can go rock solid at 240/250.

Valerio did you try better ram to see if you are stable at settings above BIOS allowable?
