Hey there guys...

Well I'm having a few probs with my P4 2.66B SL6DX processor... It'll run every benchmark except 3DMark once I go above 3.17 GHz (158 MHz FSB). PCMark, Sandra, Q3, SuperPi or whatever will run, just not 3DMark.

I'm using a Thermalright AX-478 w/53CFM Sanyo Denki for cooling and while my temps stay around 52 degrees I don't think cooling is a problem. Adding more then 10% voltage doesn't help either. :(

I'm not really sure what to do, if anyone has idea's on how to fix this please let me know.

Here's the rest of my test rig's system spec's just in case you need it...

Abit BG7
ATi Radeon 9700 Pro (same thing happens if I use a Ti4600)
256MB Corsair XMS3200 CAS2 running 3:4

Thanks.

test the benchmark from codecult, if it also crashes, it's a graphics card problem. Perhaps the agp/pci bus is to high.

Hmm... That's a good idea, I'm going to try that tonight.

I don't think it's the AGP/PCI because this happens even when I lock them at 66/33 MHz, but it's worth a shot!

Thanks Klosterbruder! :)

When you say "it doesn't run 3DMark", what happens exactly ?

Hey Niko! :)

The system completely locks up, but it appears to be random becuase it doesn't lock up in the same spot. Sometimes it's Dragotic or lobby or even the fill rate tests!

At 157 MHz FSB, everything is perfect, but once I go above that speed, 3DMark goes crazy. :(

Hi colin,

I have the exact same problem......my mobo is the IT7-max.
I also have the same processor.

I am running this setup on air....for now. I have ordered a prometeia, which should let us know if it is a cooling issue.

My abit IT7 has a pci/agp lock, however how do we know it's working as I cant get above a 157 fsb on 3Dmark.

What kind of score(3dmark) can you get up to with your new setup??

The best score I've seen so far is 16,500.

With the sub zero cooling of the Prometeia I have seen PPL on this site running stable at 3.5ghz... Only I hope I will be able to get that high on a higher fsb than 157...Actually I'll need 175 fsb to get there. Might need better ram as well, stuff like you've got.;)

Also Colin,
what kind of voltage are you using on your ram? Many ppl here even voltage mod the board to feed more voltage to ram.

If you go to 1:1 in bios for ram, how high can you go on fsb?

Colin, try the followings:

1: Prime95 for at least 6 hours

2: Run the Commance 4 Demo benchmark. This is a very CPU intensive benchmark. Sometimes my system can pass 3DMark, but can't pass that test if the CPU is unstable.

mike.elmes at 157 MHz FSB I lock my system at 75 MHz AGP.

As for 3DMark score, using the Radeon 9700 Pro my personal highest is 18.6k... I'm running my memory at 3:4 mode with the most aggressive timings in the BIOS.

The Corsair XMS3200 seems to be pretty happy with 2.7V, rasing the memory voltage doesn't seem to help. :(

Even with the memory set to run at 1:1 if I go above 157 MHz FSB, 3DMark will lock. :(

Niko, thanks for the advice, I'll give that a shot.
