tin the wire, tin the leg i want to solder to, a touch of solder on the wire, heat the wire and touch it to the leg is what i been doing for practice.

is this good ? no?

flux the wire and leg. tin the wire, place wire on chips leg, touch wire with the iron. hold wire still. blow on the wire to cool it down, let go.

The most important part is to have a really clean tip.. one really shiny and clean. i cannot stress how important that is!

Thanks for the tips guys, really helped me. I practiced a few more hours and had a few brews to calm down the hands. Took my time and was very patient and this is what i came out with :

very nice, clean mods. be careful with the legs of the pot though, they might short on the aluminum ramsink. id put some heatshrink

alright, thanks for the tip. I bent the pins upward a little so theres plenty of clearence, but ill heatshrink em too, just to be safe ;)

meh... it died.

I did vdd mod and set voltage to 3v and it died during a 3dMark01 run. Not bummed one bit though, live and learn. Atleast both the mods worked :D

x800Pro should be here Tuesday ;) until then GF4 MX400

What killed it? Too much voltage or bad mod?

I'm looking for tips too, so I can do a vdd mod on my mobo and vdimm. Practicing now on old pci cards etc. How easy is it to damage those ICs?

yea too much voltage i threw at memories. i raised up to 3v then 3.2 then 3.4 and it was toast, completely my fault and i knew i shouldn't have kept raising it. But it was my first live vmod so i kinda had to push the limit :D

i practiced on an old PCI video card also. just go slow and never be in a rush. the more ya practice the easier it gets. The tip in here about the flux/rosin was helpful. Definately pick some up from teh radio shack if you don't already have it ;)

new card be here tuesday :slobber:
