Backup on second hard drive?

I know this is a pretty basic question, but I havent had much experience with secondary hds. Anyways, a friend of mine needs to backup everything before they reformat. They have two hard drives in their system and asked me if they could move all of the data to the second hard drive. Im not sure if the data would remain, but I would imagine it would get wiped too, would it? The first hd has the OS on it and they are going to reformat it, so would it also wipe the secondary hard drive?

From what i can understand in your post.
You're asking if they move all data to second HDD, and reformat the first one, would the data remain on the second one.?
If so, then yes it would still be there. :)
