Need help with insulation

I still haven't found a store that sells the correct stuff for insulating a waterchiller. Where do you guys get your insulation? (for waterblocks, tubing, etc.)

I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks guys.

I use armaflex insulation and glue.
Get it at a Refrigeration Parts supply house.
Johnstone Supply would prob be your best bet. They'll sell to the public.

Johnstone Supply has all the right stuff, but I have to buy a whole carton. Only need a couple...lol.

The Home Depot near me does not carry Armaflex. It has some other lower-quality pipe insulation.

Home Depot carries amraflex I bought a roll the other day. Maybe ur store is out ask about it. Also they carry frostking products. Some in the water heater section and some in the hardware section near the thresholds ask an associate they'll show you where the weather stripping is. I've been using these products for a year now with great success. Look for foam rubber or closed cell foam on the packaging. Lowes carries it near the ladder and tool box section its labled campershell insulation on one package and closed cell foam insulation on the other.

Yeah I just bought some armaflex pipe insulation from Home Depot last night. Its in the plumping section.

Went again, and didn't have it! Even tried Lowe's as well.

1/2 I.D and 3/4 O.D. is good to use.

heres the pic of the proofing products I use the purple and blue bags I got at Lowes and the amerflex and frostking from home depot the roll of black tape comes in the purple package. I havent opened tha blue one yet. its about the same just a diff thickness and width home depot carries the pipe wrap as well look for it in the plumbing area where theyy keep the pipes.

So for the Armaflex, I should use 7/8" ID or 1/2" ID? It really should be 3/4" since my tubing is 3/4" OD, but closest I could find is 7/8".

Is it okay if it's a little bigger?

yeah should be fine I cant read the numbers on mine anymore but I think it was 7/8th its only 1/8 wider.

I use 5/8 ID armaflex and it fits over perfectly over my 3/4 OD tubing.

I personally do not like pipe wrap, it isnt very thick. I prefer the cylinder blocks of neophrene with the hole through the middle (you put your tubing through there ;)). These are often thicker, I picked up 5 x 1M strips of it for £2.99 from Focus.

yeah for tubing thats good...... those products I showed above are to wrap the block with. for the tubing I use the split pip wrap that comes in long lengths or the hole in the middle variety as well

Ah, I dont use that stuff on the block, I use normal thick pieces of neophrene and cut them accordingly to fit in the CPU socket, around the socket and over the waterblock. I build up in layers using di-electrice grease between each layer and then the cylinder neophrene for my tubing which I usually wrap thick black tape around and use cable ties to make sure its held firmly to the tubing.

Other good insulators are rubatex insulation sheets and tape that can be gotten at electrical supply houses, Chemtronics Kon Form spray from mcelectronics.com, liquid electrical tape from any hardware store, dielectric grease found at automotive parts stores.

Armaflex and Rubatex are the two main brands of closed cell foam (aka neoprene) insulation. Same stuff, different brands.
