Hi, I'n new to the forums here and I wanted ot ask a few questions;

Currently Ive got an AXP 1600 @ 2100 and Abit KX7 333 with Corsair XMS PC 2700 CAS 2 ram running at fastest timings. the highest fsb Ive been able to achieve is 171 with the cpu locked @ 10.5 will unlocking it permit higher fsb overclocking? and what level of overclock can I expect from my memory?

Thanks

yes, by unlocking it, it will allow you to lower the multiplier (10 is a good one) and then you should be able to get around 185-190fsb most agressive memory timings on that ram.

Brandon,

Welcome to Xtreme :)

I don't have experience w/ the Corsair XMS PC2700 C2, but if you're not max'd out on available memory voltage @ the current FSB you're running, then yes, unlocking your CPU and dropping your mult should allow for higher FSB.

First off welcome :).

Secondly yes unlocking your cpu should allow for higher FSB. If you set to say 10x instead of 10x youd be able to get 180ish FSB for instance. As for the memory it should be good for between 180 and 220mhz depending on which version of chips it has under the heatspreader.

Brandon,

Unlocking the chip may permit higher fsb overclocking... only if the other components are up to the task.

Pc 2700 ram is only rated to run 166 at spec timings. Kx7 motherboards have been known to run in excess of 200mhz fsb with unlocked chips(pci/agp cards permitting).

I'd say if you unlocked the chip and dropped the multiplier to 10 you could probably get 180 and a straight 2200+ (1.8ghz) out of that combination of components... but overclocking is all hit and miss so ymmv.

edit: I distracted while typing my post and got beat to the punch by everyone :-P

Welcome to Xtreme! I'm not all that knowledgeable about the questions you're asking, so I thought a good welcome and a bump was in order. One of the others will be through here soon and they should be able to answer your questions for you. So kick back and check out the site and you'll get taken care of;):toast:
